Description: Originally from Paducah Kentucky, our family's Bar-b-que tradition started in 1941. Now on it's 3rd generation, Ole Hickory Pit still cooks fresh (not frozen) meat the old fashioned way with real wood logs. While others use methods to "flavor" their meats such as with MSG, Liquid Smoke, Charcoal Chips, artificial flavoring and coloring... we only use natural wood logs, lots of patience and a touch of love. Our pork shoulders may simmer for approx. 15 hours while the tender pork spareribs may slow cook for 6-8 hours. From mamaw Mable's Potato Salad made fresh from Red A Potatoes to dad's smokey BBQ Beans, our homemade side orders are cooked right here in our kitchen using the same family recipes that started it all. Swing on by for a good down home bar-b-que. Make sure you bring an appetite!

“Industrial shreaded meats/Southern Style”
Reviewed August 10, 2007

Nearest BBQ to GE Appliance Park. Plenty of stacked wood and wood smoke around the building, unfortunately none of the wood flavour made it into the meat. Wet BBQ with no dry rub. Amazing all the meats pretty much taste the same with same texture (that's an accomplishment to make turkey taste like mutton (which is old sheep, an Owensboro-style specialty)).

A unique deep-fried and dripping corn on the cob is available, and the corn bread flat cakes are good. Free refills on drinks. Hamburgers are ok. Never seen anyone try to fried chicken here but it may be excellent. Two tomato-based sauces available, normal and hot. Very reasonably priced.
