“In the Home of the Louisville Slugger...It's Outta' the Park!”
Reviewed December 11, 2007

The brand new Louisville downtown Marriott hotel is the Louisville's newest grand tradition for important business events, stylish social gatherings or weekend escapes. The contemporary design and unparalleled service is top-notch. Featuring 616 guest rooms & suites, 2 concierge levels and 50,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, this beautiful convention hotel provides Pedway connection to the Kentucky Int'l Convention Center and Louisville's happenin' new Fourth Street Live district.

The Champion's Sports Bar & Restaurant located on the ground floor offers a large selection of satellite sports channels but the food is average at best. The bar is hopping and very loud.

If it's elegant dining that you desire, check out the high-dollar cuisine of BLU Italian Mediterranean Grille.

This hotel is within steps of Louisville's attractions like Waterfront Park, Louisville Slugger Museum, Louisville Glassworks and the new Muhammad Ali Center and just minutes from Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby.

The rooms are absolutely wonderful! Large, airy, comfortable bed, nice LCD TV, big business center desk, strong and stable computer network. Bathrooms are large and meticulous.

I recently brought a group of college students to Louisville for a conference that was held at the Marriott Downtown. We had an excellent experience! The location was great for walking to area restaurants and attractions. The students especially enjoyed 4th St. Live and the Louisville Slugger museum - both walking distance. We ate out together one night at the Hard Rock Cafe on 4th St. and had a great meal and service. Our rooms was comfortable, clean, and new. I had a view of the river that was lovely. I found the clerks to be friendly and was especially impressed with the concierge on duty one night, Leann. We had a student that became ill and needed medical attention, and she found an Urgent Care that was open, called them for us, printed a map for directions and was quite compassionate in her response to our request for help. The situation resolved itself well, thanks to her help. We had several meals prepared by the hotel as part of the conference and thought the food was excellent. The waiters were very friendly, especially at the closing formal banquet, where we had personalized service at each table from waiters that kept us laughing, while also served promptly. My experience at one of the hotel restaurants, Champions (or maybe Champs?), wasn't as favorable. It was always crowded with a lack of service. One night I received my meal for free because it took so long (and it wasn't worth the wait). I didn't eat at the other hotel restaurant, Blu. I also was irritated that internet had a fee of $10 in the room, and found it to be spotty service for free in the lobby areas. Tip for those wanting free internet - the best connection was on the second floor by the business center in front of the round window. Apparently that's where the wireless hub is, and there was always a group sitting in the lounge area there with laptops. However, other than those minor problems, we had a very comfortable stay at the Marriott Downtown and would definitely stay there again when in Louisville.

I stayed here about a year ago for one night while traveling for business and while I don't clearly remember how soft the bed was, or if the room was clean, or how many cable channels there were, I do remember this, THE STAFF WAS PHENOMENAL! I have never encountered such hospitable people in all my life. I highly recommend this hotel if you appreciate being treated with genuine warmth and generosity.

The hotel itself is a very nice, upscale hotel with beautiful rooms. Very close to everything downtown...but therein lies the problem of what we experienced at this hotel. We stayed at the hotel on a saturday night and were awoken at 3am to so much noise going on down on the street level that we thought world war III must be going on. Starting around 3am and lasting until 4:30 am we heard police sirens, bullhorns of police telling people on the street to get moving, car horns honking and loud music coming from the cars on the streets. There were hundreds of people yelling and shouting at one another. When we called down to the front desk to find out what was going on they said that was a typical week-end night (more so in the summer months) and this is the time the bars close downtown so all the bar goers are leaving downtown and the police are there to direct traffic and get the party goers moving on their way home. So we had to lay there in our room, because when we asked if there was a quieter side to the hotel, the front desk lady said it was all around the hotel so it wouldn't make a difference if we moved rooms to the other end of the hotel. Finally around 4:30am the noise stopped...or so I thought- once the street noise quieted down I started to hear a conversation coming from 2 people in, I assume, the adjoining room to ours. There is a 'vent' on the hotel room wall that allowed us to hear everything that was going on in the room next to us. So let us just say we did not sleep at all that night. It was a very disappointing night at the marriott. So that is why I gave this hotel a terrible rating.

Very convenient location for downtown business and attractions. Two floors of concierge rooms (lounge is closed on weekends). Overall what you would expect for an urban Marriott, but the "newness factor" puts it above average. Request a river view room.

Highly recommend the new 21C Museum Hotel a few blocks away based on a quick tour and dinner at their restaurant (Proof on Main).

Typical what I expect from a Marriott especially @ $165 a night. Was there for a conference.

Located near 4th Street live restaurants and the Kentucky Visitor's Bureau who was very helpful especially recommending restaurants. 25 cents Trolley that serviced downtown was wonderful for those who didn't have a car.

Standard fare Marriott, with a nice lobby and a great Starbucks on site. The room was standard, though it had no means of allowing for fresh air. On the whole, not worth a special trip, and not worth avoiding. Beware, there are few upper end restaurants in downtown Louisville!
