This was our 1st Hibachi-Grille experience since our move to Louisville just 4 months ago, but can't say we would "recommend" this place. Still being new to the area, we can't say for sure how this Japanese Steak House stacks up against the in-town competition, but going up against our many Hibachi Grille experiences else where, we found this experience to be greatly lacking. First off, the decorum needs some MAJOR up-dating (unless you're going for that dank, musty 80's motif) the carpet was old and worn, to match the worn tables and over-scuffed grilles. The Good.... soft-drink glasses were large and the drinks were cold and refreshing. The Staff, no real complaints here, everyone were really pleasant even if not overly prompt. We went on a Friday around 8pm, but they seemed to be under-staffed for what was not even a full house.
The food?.... Just barely OK, the usual simple 'clear broth', the simple salad with "special sauce" was also adequate. Speaking of the house "special sauce"... that orange-like sauce that most every Hibachi comes with, this was by-far our least favorite that we've ever had, just not a good mixture of whatever it is. As for the grilled fare, they give you a TON of fried rice (though they don't offer you the alternative of steamed rice) which we found to be over-dressed (with extra soy, special sauce, exc) making it really heavy, AND over-cooked since some of ours was actually blackened & burnt. The meats were cooked properly to requested temperatures... but we wished our cook hadn't been so heavy-handed with the house "special sauce", allowing us to add more only if preferred... some of us like to actually taste the ingredients we paid for.
Most everyone at our table & neighboring tables had to take to-go boxes, but we learned it was more so do to the HUGE quantity of HEAVY fried rice and the large soft-drink/ water cups. So if you want QUANTITY over QUALITY... then this is the place for you... as for my wife and I we won't be returning anytime soon.

I am really SAD to write this review! We took the family to this Shogun Japanese Steak House on Hampton Lake Way to celebrate a couple of birthdays! We have been visiting this steak house for years, and I am very disappointed to tell you that this place is declining and "going down hill". It just isnt clean and it is getting very dated and run down. Their "Health Department" rating is declining, I dont know how often they are inspected but the score has been dropping from 97% to 93%, now it is 90% and if you look around, you can see why!

The waitress service was very bad, the table cook was nice but just not "entertaining", however, the food was fresh and good enough, but the price was too high. Considering all of the reasons you go to a Shogun, it was too expensive for what they provide and it really fell short in every way. We will not return unless some major cleaning is done and some serious changes are made!

Sushi and interesting rolls. The steakhouse side is very good, standard Japanese style steakhouse. Ate dinner one night and lunch another day. Both were very good and reasonable prices.

Online menu did not match their menu because another shogun in town was different, very confusing. Online menu for this restaurant needs serious updating. The outside looked liked it had been closed for sometime, I was surprised to find out that actually it was opened for business.

The food was good and the cook was a pleasure. The location was good for me because it was next door to the hotel I was staying.
