“Rooftop Dining In Old Louisville. Good food and Great Views”
Reviewed July 3, 2011

Just made our first trip to Gary's on Spring. It's located in a beautifully renovated building in the Butchertown area of the city. The attraction was the upstairs, outdoor dining area. It was not a disappointment. The proprietor met us at the door and upon our request for outside seating he forewarned us that service was a little "slower" on the roof. We were delighted by the upfront warning, but countered that we wanted to savor the evening and no hurry was needed. The meal started with a well prepared Wedge salad and moved on to a potato encrusted baked sea bass. The sea bass was great and the potato surrounding it wonderful. It was garnished with brussel sprouts and a light cream sauce. Teresa had a Cosmo, her standard, and it was prepared to her request, no Triple Sec, Grand Marnier instead. A bottle of Nobilio was a very reasonable $20! We didn't venture dessert, but another couple there that we knew had the "sampler". Looked phenomenal! Bread Pudding, Chocolate cake and two cheese cakes.... Gained 10lbs just looking at it! We will be back to Gary's on Spring!

Good atmosphere in an unexpected corner of town. The lamb en croute was very creative and the sauce was complex. Two of us ordered both selections of fish and were happy. Another ordered the eggplant and commented that it was bland. The caesar salad was excellent. Empty on a Monday but service was very attentive. Price $19 to 30 for entrees. We will go back again.

“Great new place with incredible food and nice wine.”
Reviewed April 27, 2011

We made a reservation, though, it may not have been necessary. There were three in our group. We split a bottle of wine from the Napa Valley that came recommended by the waitress. It was excellent, they had just added it to the list. $22 for the bottle.
We then ordered the baby brown as an appetizer, amazing with the smoked turkey and cheese sauce covering everything.
My friend had the potato encrusted grouper, with brussel sprouts. The fish was perfect, flaky and the brussel sprouts were sweet if you can believe it. My wife had the lamb. The waitress accidentally brought the eggplant, apparently a miscommunication. We started eating and we had the lamb just a few minutes later due to a rush order on the lamb. The lamb was wrapped in phyllo, goat cheese, spinach and pine nuts. The lamb was incredibly tender. There were roasted potatoes on the side that were wonderfully browned.
I had the bison rib-eye. I worried that it might be lean, but it was perfect. Plenty of flavor, lots of juice, melted in my mouth. The roasted carrots and potatoes were also quite nice.
We finished with the sampler desert platter. This is a bargain. I loved the bread pudding, and the apple cheese cake. The chocolate torte was a little much for me, but both ladies loved it. The raspberry white chocolate mouse cake was good, with the ladies liking it more than me. The creme bruler was a bit runny, but the creme flavor was perfect. Could have been a bad batch? The desert was only $9. If the sample sizes indicate the size of the single serving then you will be very happy for portion sizes too.
