Never been there before it was very big and at night the lights were beautiful. It was a little hot but I still had a nice time even though I didn't win.

“Fun day at the races”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

Went to Churchill Downs for the first time after seeing it on our City Taste Tour. Had a good time and won a little money. Some things you might want to consider: 1-Don't buy tickets at your hotel...the ones we bought were more expensive than at the track and were "off the grid." Better to buy tickets at the track and try to get box seats in the 300's where you can look out over the track. We walked down to general admission ($3/$1 senior) and had a better view of the finish line. 2-If you plan to stay for awhile, bring a cushion to sit on because the seats are metal folding chairs. 3- The food for "regular" people is mostly concession type. Smashers had good panini sandwiches, especially the Reuben. Seating wasn't very good so we took our sandwiches out to our track seats. There is a restaurant called Silks but the food didn't look any better. Would have been nice to have a place with outdoor seating. I imagine the owners had better food. 4-Parking is a problem. We kept trying to find Valet parking but it was so difficult we just parked in the $3 lot & took a golf cart to the front door. 5-Be sure to check other activities in the area...there was a football game right near the track at the same time & when we left we got caught in the going home traffic. Roads were blocked so we had to take a detour & almost got lost. In spite of all this, we did have a good time & wouldn't have missed seeing this legendary venue.

“A must for horse racing fans”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

If you are into horse racing a visit here is a must. There just happened to be a meeting whilst I was in Louisville and it was a great experience to be at such a legendary sporting venue. It was a low key meeting so plenty of room and viewing and dining options. I pre-booked some grandstand indoor seats, but general admission is only $3 and there is first-some, first-served trackside seating which gets you really close to the action. I never backed a winner so much the same as normal, but a great experience.
