This is such a beautiful, historic place - take the time to come a little early and walk around to enjoy the entire facility ~ the staff was so helpful, they even gave us a tour of Millioniares Row and the upper levels! Truly worth adding to your BUCKET list !

What a fun day and not my first visit. Churchill Downs is great because you can have fun regardless of your budget as long as you go on a day other than Derby, Oaks or Breeders Cup when it is in town. You can stand around the paddock area and get great views of the horses up close, but you have no seat or view of the track from there. On non busy days you can wander and see the track from several vantage points. The Grandstand has bench seating and is affordable. Or you can enjoy the Sky Terrace or Millionaires Row if you are lucky and/or rich. Many groups (alumni, corporate, etc.) have a day at the races and these reserved areas can be enjoyed for about $50 each complete with buffet. Or if you have lots of money or connections you can get tickets to box seats (mostly outdoor). Whichever way you go there is an abudance of fun, food, drink and excellent people watching opportunities. You can spend all day or just watch a couple of races, your choice.

Museum is interesting with much to read and see. the tour is nice, but standard. Short walk to the track and explanation of the races. Track is in an urban setting, so nothing too pretty around.

I had a picture in mind of classic but traditional. CD has turned this place into a corporate, same-as-any-other track. You can barely see Twin Spires through the bulky corporate suites.

You havent seen anything until you have gone to the track. You can just go,and watch tbe horses but betting is so much fun. You can bet as little as $1. I once won $600 on a $4bet. Lucky guess. :)
