“A great experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2012

This old historic track has been modernized to be a very attractive and efficient operation without losing any of it's old style charm. Complete the experience by having a Mint Julip while you watch the action either from next to the rail, in a seat in the stands, or on a large screen inside and in the inner courtyard.
There is free parking available in the outer lots as well as paid parking close to the buildings.
Only $2 or $3 entry per peson to get into the track.
This place gets crazy during the Derby but is very accessible and pleasant during the regular weekday races.
Overall, a fun time not to be missed when visiting Louisville!

“And I don't even bet the ponies!”

Spent Memorial Day at the track. Took the family and had a ball. There was an art fair in the infield (there is usually an added attraction on the weekend) Enjoyed hearing the bugler playing the theme song to honor each of the military branches in between each race. It was a lovely tribute. He also played many patriotic songs. Love to visit the paddock and see the horses parade before each race. My grandson was able to do a scavenger hunt hosted by the Junior Jockey Club which he enjoyed very much. Churchill Downs is so much more than just a race track. So much history here and a great place to people-watch!

“Timing is everything”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2012

If you enjoy huge crowds and events, the Kentucky Oaks or the Kentucky Derby are for you. If you prefer a quieter day at the races (where you can actually place a bet, get a beverage, or use the bathroom without waiting in line for 30 minutes), the huge events should be avoided like the bubonic plague. To truly enjoy the track and it's facilities, it's best to go on a normal race day.

“Don't miss Churchill Downs”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2012

I love to go to Churchill Downs as it is a beautiful place, pleasant atmosphere and if you like horse races, this is the place to be. The Sunday Brunch has tasty dishes and after brunch you can enjoy the races inside or outside on the terrace. Anytime that we have out of town visitors, they ask about Churchill Downs and we like to show it off to them. Have to admit that I have never attended The Derby, but I am sure that it is a great experience.

“Really fun day for the family”

Definitely make reservations for indoor dining -- it's not very expensive and the air-condition is a welcome relief from the heat. You can see the race from the large windows and enjoy a meal at the same time.
