“Adequate but noisy”
Reviewed October 25, 2008

Stayed here for a convention in mid October for 3 nights at convention rate of $135+tax for a suite. I was on 10th floor in the suite tower. 1st impressions were good. The check-in was fine and the room huge with a large sitting room and then a corridor to the bedroom.

The room was comfortable enough (although the sitting room was slightly dark) and the free wifi worked well. The downside is the freeway noise outside. I've spent many nights in hotels near freeways and this is one of the noisier. There appears to be a bump in the road right outside The Galt House and the lorries really rattle over it in the early hours of the morning. Also everyone time someone in a nearby room flushed the toilet you were treated to the rush of water. My room was 'interconnecting' with another (although obviously the door was locked) but I could hear their early morning alarm and the phone ringing.

On the plus side the gym is great and only costs only $5 per day or $10 per week. Didn't really use any other hotel facilities. Staff, in my little interaction with them, were fine.

The only other shock was when the bill came and the various taxes (3 of them) managed to add an additional ~$20 per night.

If I'm ever back in Louisville I'll probably stay elsewhere.

When I arrived in my room, there was no toilet paper (not even a spindle for it)... no soap... no face cloths. The next day, the maid never came to make up the room... we stopped a chambermaid in the hall and asked if she was going to make up our room, and she laughed. The place is definitely seedy. Someone left an empty beer case next to the elevator, which stayed there for at least 12 hours. The hotel smelled from food... lots of dirty linens and dishes from conventions and meetings lying around... it was really a dreadful experience all around. Next time, I'll go back to the Hyatt Regency which is gorgeous!

We stayed 2 nights at the Galt House and we were pretty disappointed. We had to switch rooms after the first night because from the 16th floor (Rivue tower) we couldn't sleep due to the ROARING freeway noise. The windows don't keep out any noise. We were moved up to the 24th floor and could still hear the freeway! The front desk staff was routinely cold. No Kentucky charm here. The rooms were clean and a fine size, but pretty overpriced. We paid $125 a night plus $12 a night for parking. The restaurant prices had $35 entrees. I heard they had a big renovation, but the place still feels like it's straight out of 1978 in the common areas. I would have rather stayed at a Best Western.

While the Galt House looks nice enough when you first walk in, it's a bit ragged around the edges and it lacks any sense of charm. The rooms are big and the bedding is pretty good, but the rooms seem a bit tattered if you look closely. It's also a big convention hotel so the common areas seem to constantly be full of people wandering around. The hotel itself is a maze and it spans two buildings on either side of a busy street. It is close to downtown businesses, so convenient for the business traveler. Although, next time I'm in town, I'll stay elsewhere.

Booked the Galt House for 2 nights at a rate of $72 a night. Checked in kind of late after tours of the "Bourbon Trail" outside of Louisville. Check in was very easy and we parked in the underground garage parking I believe was $14 a day.

The room was very large with two double beds and a crib was brought up to our room quickly. The room was very nicely appointed and comfortable beds and linens. Considering the size of the room, I was surprised that there was no fridge in the room, but that isn't huge deal.

The bathroom was nice, with a split area with a separate sink and mirror outside the tub and toilet area. One bad thing was the water pressure was kind of weak.

The pool is only outdoor, so we weren't able to use that as it had been closed for the season.

If I were going to be Louisville again, I would definitely want to stay there.

Except for a couple of the reviews I've seen here all of them contain some portion of truth concerning The Galt. On the plus side it's close to plenty of attractions, our suite was big and comfortable, the staff was very friendly, and the building itself is interesting. On the other hand, the walls are thin and water activities such as showering and flushing could be heard throughout the night. The breakfast options are indeed ridiculous but the bar located in the skywalk has a fabulous view of the Ohio. All in all, we enjoyed our stay but might try someplace else if we're ever in Louisville again.

Everything was nice, lovely rooms, great staff. The restaurant had great food. We had a room that when you walked out the patio door, you could see the river boat, the carriages coming around to pick people up for a ride to town. We would sit at night outside our room and look out to the river. We were here for a convention and there was a short wait for elevators maybe 5 minutes. Staff was great and always had a smile.
