Galt House Hotel
Ranked #29 of 97 Hotels in Louisville

We stayed in the Rivue Tower. The room was adequate, kind of worn, stains on carpet, beds hard, free WiFi. I got the feeling that this section of the hotel was only opened when a big event was booked. The elevators looked really shabby. We were there for the Ryder Cup so every hotel in Louisville was fully booked. The room just looked unfinished, no bed skirt, worn out blanket. But aside from the permanent looking stains on the carpet it was clean, quiet, and plenty of hot water and towels.

The best thing about this hotel was the staff. From check in, parking, room service, everyone was efficient and cordial. The room service food was very good. They even returned by post something I left in the room. I would not hesitate to stay here again, but don't expect much in decor.

The Galt House seems to generate very different views so hopefully this will help make up your mind.

I stayed in the Suite Tower and there is no doubt that the very large room and free wi fi will be attractive to many travellers. It has a good central location about 3 blocks from the nightlife of 4th Street Live and within easy walking distance of some good restaurants (Jeff Ruby next door and Vincenzo's one block away)and the Ali Museum.

However, it is bland, has decor out of the 60's, terrible breakfast options, slow lifts and tiny hard towels (but plenty of them).

There are much better hotels in Louisville but the Galt House is adequate.

The Galt House had really gone down hill in the past which is sad for a place with so much history but after the new renovation, it is amazing!!! granite countertops, really classy timeless interior decorating. Nice white bedding, cherry armoire for tv, incredible views of the river.

Only negative is that the walls are kind of thin and any time anyone washed their hands, took a shower or flushed a toilet, I heard the water run down the pipes. Thats kind of hard for someone like me that sleeps light.

I would definitely stay there again though (with earplugs for when I sleep). It was totally worth it!

My room in RIVUE Tower overlooked the river. Only thing wrong with the room was the shower handle; after figuring it out, it took awhile for the water to get near hot. Was at a convention for retirees and some complained about how far they had to walk to meeting rooms. As in a previous review, I also recommend Starr, one of the concierges. Room service portabella mushroom sandwich delicious, as was dinner in Magnolia restaurant in hotel. Location on the river was great; could walk to sightseeing, 4th Street Live, or get a trolley for 50 cents right in front of hotel.

The Galt House is almost an institution in downtown Louisville - it has been there a long time. So the property is showing its' age However, it was a nicer property than I thought it would be after reading many negative reviews. We attended a convention of approximately 1000 people - we stayed in the suite tower and had a very nice 2 room suite for the same price as our contracted room rate of $75. All you convention goers - be sure to check with the hotel to see if they are offering their 2 room executive suites in the East tower for your convention room rate. We did see however that the configuration of their suites are different- we loved ours but others were much smaller.
Our check in was swift at 2:15 in the afternoon, the Bell Staff was very friendly and helpful. We were very pleased with our 2 room suite - we had a couch, chair, table & 2 chairs, a desk, and a wet bar with refrigerator. The couch and chair looked old and tired, however the remainder of the suite had been refurbished - the bedding was excellent and we appreciated the dressing counter outside the bathroom as the bathroom vanity was very small. Since we had a long convention, we decided to set up household in our suite and it became our home away from home - we even ate breakfast and lunch in our room. The only negative is the suite is a "front to back" room, so the parlor portion has no windows and is very dark.
Restaurants in the hotel are limited, however there are many within walking distance - a few blocks south at "4th St Live" are many restaurants and several around the block - Bistro 30l and Bristol are very good. Breakfast options are very limited.
Parking garage - it fills up fast. If you are attending a large convention - park your car and leave it there - parking spots are at a premium. The ceilings are very low so it would be difficult to park a high profile vehicle.
Elevators - there are 4 in the East tower - sometimes long waits, but all in all, it wasn't a problem, however it would be nice if they had another set.
For a convention hotel, it is fine. If you are going to Louisville for pleasure, I would certainly recommend another downtown hotel property such as the Marriott or Hyatt. But for the most part, we enjoyed our stay at the Galt House.
Be sure to dine at the Varanese - a short drive from the hotel. Certainly a "jewel" in Louisville dining - www.varanese.com

We visited the Galt House for Ironman Louisville. Even though it was the host hotel, the staff and management were not prepared for the volume and it showed. Half of the elevators were out of order so 10-15 minutes waits were normal, the restaurants were understaffed so service was terrible and housekeeping - if they came - only replaced towels. If we visit Louisville again we'll stay somewhere else (there is a nice hotel a block away that received rave reviews from our friends).

I was in town for a conference and we booked the Galt House on the location and conference recommendaton. There are two towers - one recently renovated and one not. We stayed in the 'not'.

The elevator service was horrible - half were always out of service. I was on the 7th floor and actually walked rather than wait forever for an elevator. I am able to that but I appreciate that not everyone can or would want to. Big minus for the hotel.

The decor was tired 'old south'. It might have passed for elegant thirty years ago - but the property (my tower) was not aging well. Everything in the room was OK and worked. Bed was comfortable and everything at the deli or lobby bar in the Skywalk was overly expensive.

The location was super and I spoke with some folks that I met in the lobby who were in the renovated tower and they loved it.

Would I stay there again - no. I have had much better experiences with major brands.
