“Great downtown location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Stayed two nights at the Galt House. Would stay here again if in town. Great downtown location. Convenient on-site parking. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Water pressure in the shower was extremely low, but that doesn’t bother me on a temporary basis. We were lucky to have a view of the river which we enjoyed a lot. It was nice to walk out of the hotel and be downtown by the river. Walk easily to Muhammad Ali Center, 4th Street live, the steamboat, etc. Our first night we enjoyed very tasty burgers, bourbons, and billiards at the cozy and comfortable Jockey Silks Bourbon Bar in the hotel. The second night we walked 2 short blocks to 4th Street Live for dinner. Not a lot going on at 4th Street on a Sunday. Also, Jockey Silks and Rivue restaurant in the hotel were closed Sunday. Breakfast at the Magnolia Café onsite was average/mediocre, but convenient. Our favorite part of the hotel was the bird atrium in the conservatory. Be sure to find the coupons for local attractions by the Information desk. We could have saved money on Ali tickets and Mega Cavern, but we didn't happen to see those until afterwards.

Room Tip: Room with a view of the river!

Stayed here for a wedding recently. Very close to downtown--easy walk to many attractions, including the Muhammed Ali Center and the Louisville Slugger factory. Room seemed a bit old, but the bed was comfy and overall, we had a good stay.

Biggest complaint would be the elevators...I think because there was a conference in town that same weekend, the hotel was quite full, but I know on multiple occasions, we waited for over 10 minutes for an elevator. A few times, we just gave up and took the stairs down from the 11th floor. Check-in was also a bit strange, only because we were in a different tower than the check-in desk, so we had to cross the street, check in, go back across the street to our room and go up from there. And take note: to park in the attached garage, you need to scan your room key, so don't lose it!

Stayed here for the famdom fest convention. Very nice hotel, yes some parts are a little older looking but its kept up very well. There are two towers of the hotel connected by a huge skywalk with a bar and cafe. Theres even a bird cage in the middle. This hotel is very easy to get lost in, its that big. Its also connected to the international convention center by another skywalk. Its about a ten mintue walk to get there. Theres ton of restaurants with in walking distance of the hotel. I recommend the Old Spaghetti Factory. Its wonderful!
Ps the pool is an outside pool and its not heated. And you do have to pay for paking, $8 a day.

My husband and I stayed here during a weekend trip to Louisville. Our room was great! We had a terrific view of the river. Everything was clean and quiet. The bourbon bar on the 3rd floor isn't to be missed. The Galt House couldn't be in a better location. Close to tons of restaurants. We walked to Fourth Street Live and caught a Buckcherry concert for $5! We are already planning to stay here when we return.

The rooms were very clean. There was plenty of room within the room. There was a little bar area with a mini-fridge, but there was no microwave in the room. For the price of the room, the parking was a bit expensive. It should have had free parking or a free breakfast would also have been very nice since the room was a bit pricey and we had to pay for parking. The queen size beds were NOT queen size, I would say more the size of a double bed. The staff was very friendly and helpful. PLENTY of towels were provided. It was nice that the bathroom had a shower instead of a bathtub. Also was nice to have a shower head above my head for a change instead of below it.
Other reviews mention location of room makes a difference, so I'll mention ours. Our room was over top check in, facing the KFC Center. Unsure where that is, just check it out on Google Maps.
Even though our room was near the elevators it was quite. Elevators were a bit slow and they could definitely benefited from having MORE elevators. There was a convention event at the time and the elevators were constantly moving.
They charge you $5 a day to use the exercise room and even $5 a day for internet use in the rooms. Both of which should be free.
Hotel has great location for river boats, KFC Center and the Kentucky International Convention Center. Be warned though. This hotel is in downtown Louisville and there won't be much of anything open on weekends. The Wendy's four block over closes at 5pm, Arby's is no longer in business, even Starbucks wasn't open on weekends and closed early during the week. Ton's of places had either closed up for good or only opened for a few hours during weekdays.

The hotel was clean and the staff was great! When we told the front desk that we were celebrating our anniversary we were given an upgraded room. What was the upgrade? We went from a double bed room to a suite with a separate sitting room. Our room was tucked away from all the outside noise of a Com Con Fest. I love being in downtown Louisville just a walk away from the 4th street activities and our short walk to see Steely Dan in concert at the Louisville Palace.

Stayed here in late July in connection with a convention so our room rate was $145 for a suite and $8 per night for parking. Our suite included a spacious bedroom with 2 queen size beds, a large bathroom, and a living room with sofa bed, chair, table, minifridge/sink/bar area and tvs in both rooms. There was a hallway area with counter, large mirror, and makeup mirror just outside the bathroom between the living room and bedroom and doors so that either area could access the bathroom without disturbing the other. It is well worth the small difference in price to get a suite over the regular rooms to have the extra space and mini fridge. The elevators are slow when the hotel is full, as it was this past weekend, but since our suite was on the 5th floor, we used the escalators to go from the street level to third floor, then used the stairs to get to the 5th floor. The river is just behind the hotel, we found several nice areas to go for a walk, and there are lots of restaurants very close by, so can't comment on the quality of the hotel food or its restaurants. The atrium bar area was a great place to relax, and free wifi was available there. We could access the Galt conference wifi from our room, so we did not have to pay for guest access.

Room Tip: Get a suite if there are more than 2 of you for the extra space and mini fridge.
