I honestly do not believe that it quite "feels" like the holiday season until I am sitting in a darkened theater, perched nearly precariously on the edge of my seat, straining not to miss one poetic word from A Christmas Carol.
So yes, the time for rejoicing can begin, because Actors Theatre will be running Charles Dickens' beloved tale through December 23. I would highly recommend that anyone interested in attending a performance of this masterpiece should purchase their tickets in advance. Something so fantastic is sure to be a sell-out!
A Christmas Carol is a wonderful, heart-stirring journey into the world of Christmas and its biggest "Scrooge" who, with a little help from his friends in the spirit world, realizes the error of his ways before it is indeed too late. This is a performance piece almost completely built upon human emotions, which means that the casting must be nearly perfect to even attempt to convey the messages sewn into this intricately woven plot.
This is where I realize that Actors Theatre truly excels. Ebenezer Scrooge, played by William McNulty, is beyond brilliant. The crowd seems to move with the ebb and flow of each characteristic that he exudes onstage... passing easily from menacing to heroic, and with a good bit of comedy thrown in for good measure.
Tyrone Mitchell Henderson, who narrates from one sequence to the next, is mesmerizing! Typically, a crowd will listen to a narration to enable the movement from one scene to the next to occur more simply. However, in this case, I often didn't want his narration to end. Rather than waiting for the next scene, I found myself instead waiting to see the charismatic body language and hear the raw emotion that accompanies his monologue.
Another standout is Vaughn Ramirez, who is the most adorable Tiny Tim I have ever seen.
The performance is compelling and exciting, with the Ghost of Christmas Present spending most of her time entangled in streams of silk that hang from the ceiling, and the Ghost of Christmas Present blending tugs on the heartstrings with a bewitching laughter that is definitely contagious.
And don't leave too quickly! Children may even pose for a photo with Santa and cast members!

This is definitely something that you must experience for yourself! Visit online or call (502) 584-1265 today!

We've been ushers at Actors Theater for several years now and have seen some entertaining theater. Most recently we saw Tom Jones directed by Jon Jory. It was hilarious. The experience of seeing live theater opens the mind to the creativity of mankind. We've spent the evening there with the likes of Martin Luther King, Nixon, and Janis Joplin. We consider ourselves fortunate to have this theater in our community.

We love seeing the production "Dracula" every year! It is the highlight of our autumn season. Actors Theatre is centrally location to many fine dining establishments in Louisville.
