“A great stop on the bourbon trail”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

We had been on several tours at this point, but Maker's had some unique stuff to offer. First, their grounds are beautiful, especially decorated for the holidays. Second, they ask you to not only feel the heat coming out of the giant vats of mash, they actually ask you to taste it at each of the steps. Very cool. You could taste days 1, 2 and 3 of the mash. Then, after the tour, you get to taste the "white dog," the Maker's, an over aged Maker's, (so you can see why what they do is perfect just the way it is.) then the newbie, Maker's 46. Of course the gift shop highlight is hand dipping your own bottle of Maker's, which my husband did. The people were very friendly, and very helpful. That means so much when you are on a mini vacation, like we are. I can't imagine how many husbands live their dream, hand dipping a bottle of Maker's, and the girls in the gift shop treated every one of them with patience and kindness. It was a great tour, worth the $7!

“A great tour on the Kentucky bourbon trail”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

My friend and I visited Maker's Mark distillery as part of a two day blitz of the Kentucky bourbon trail. We were on the last tour of the day, and it was most enjoyable. Our tour guide was very animated with her voice, gestures and general enthusiasm for showing us the distillery. We walked from house to house, visiting the mash room, distilling room, bottling room, and finally the tasting room. The tours are $7 and worth it. So much history of the distillery is discussed. These places are most often family affairs, and the Samuels family is leaving their "Mark" on Maker's Mark. We learned that the elder Mrs. Samuels was responsible for the decorative decanters as well as the red wax each bottle is dipped in. In the gift shop, we purchased bottles of Maker's Mark, and got to hand dip our own bottle! Wonderful memory.

“Great Tour -- The Best”
Reviewed December 22, 2012

My wife and I recently visited the Maker's Mark Distillery. It's a trip we have been planning for a while and it more than lived up to our expectations. After taking the tour, I felt like I had a very firm grasp on the process of making bourbon. The distillery itself is a historic landmark and everything is very well kept. We have already decided to go back again next year when my barrel is tapped (see their website for ambassator info).
P.S. If you are looking for a place to stay while touring the Bourbon Trail, I suggest The Hill House B&B in Loretto or Historic Maple Hill Manor B&B, Alpaca & Llama Farm, and Fiber Store in Springfield. .

“4th trip here”
Reviewed December 15, 2012

As always, we had a great tour. The grounds are well maintained and lovely. The staff is very polite and knowledgable. We learn something new about bourbon everytime we come here. The new tasting room is a nice set up, with the ability to handle MORE visitors with-out having to rush the prior group.
