Trip was a Christmas present for my fiance to go see Smarty Jones in Lexington. Selected the Swanns Nest based upon their web site & video. We couldn't have been happier with our choice! Rosalie was a very gracious and friendly host and provided alot of insight into the local area & history. Her home is beautiful & elegant without being stuffy. Our room was very nice & comfortable. Slept better than we have in a long time. She really made us feel welcome in her home. By the time we left, we felt like old friends or family. Where else can you get up early in the morning & stroll outside to a fence & see beautiful race horses playing in a field? The location was perfect to go to all of the different attractions in and around Lexington. Highly recommend the Swanns Nest for a great place to stay. We will definately go back.

The setting for Swann's Nest is really very pretty--quiet, countryside with horses grazing in the next pasture. Our room was a "suite" which was large but furnishings are getting "shabby chic"--but was comfortable. I think the rooms are a tad overpriced. Being so near Keeneland was a big plus.

Rosalie was very pleasant and gave us the "insider's view" of the horse business.

We also felt like we were intruding at breakfast, as one other reviewer noted. The fruit, coffee etc. were out, breads were in the next room and the host said "If you want an egg, I can make one up for you" though she didn't really sound motivated. We weren't sure where we should sit. Other rooms in the house looked pretty and we would have liked to explore but the lights were all off so we didn't know if we could use them.

The Swann's Nest at Cygnet Farm is a magnificent place to stay with an excellent service. The sorroundings are gorgeous and very peaceful. I paid $145 a night for a king size bed which is an excellent value. The room and bathroom were very clean. Also the breakfast was great and the owner, Mrs. Rosalie Swann, is a charming lady. She makes you feel like home. Very near to beautiful Keenland racetrack and the most important breeding farms like Calumet Farm, etc.. If you want to mix horse racing with nature, this is the place to stay.

My husband and I spent opening weekend for Keeneland at the Swann's Nest. The property is beautiful. Our room was huge, very clean, and comfortable. The people were very nice. There were many interesting people staying there and we enjoyed visiting with them including Rosalie. We felt very comfortable and welcome, yet we had our privacy, too. We didn't feel that we had to participate in the many activities going on there that weekend, but were invited to join in. We appreciated the directions to Keeneland that avoided all the traffic. Regarding the other reviews, I didn't find any problem with the smoke. We are nonsmokers from Ohio, where there is no smoking just about everywhere, so we are sensitive to it. I definitely did not smell any smoke in our room. We do hope to return next year to visit our money that we left at the racetrack. We would love to stay at the Swann's Nest again. We look forward to it. Our hostess was very gracious even when I kept locking the doors - sorry, I am a city girl. Thank you for a wonderful time.

Kentucky at its finest. Hostess is a fine Kentucky lady. She makes everyone feel very welcome and comfortable. House and rooms are gorgeous and perfectly maintained. Keenland is literally next door, and some of the horses graze in an ajoining pasture.

This is one of the best places we have ever stayed in the US and Western Europe. Rosalie goes out of her way to make guests feel comfortable and welcome, the house, rooms, garden, and paddocks were all stunningly lovely. We were made to feel like the whole house was available for us to enjoy and Rosalie was exceptional in her hospitality, even recommending a restaurant and calling for reservations for us. Our granddaughter was even given some treats for the horses and encouraged to feed them which delighted her.

Our room was quite large with a king sized bed and a huge and lovely bathroom. All the decor and appointments were very tasteful and of course spanking clean. We also had a balcony that overlooked the garden and pond. There were several choices for where to eat breakfast: the family style breafast area, dining room, screened porch and patio and the breakfast featured a variety of breads, cream cheese, jams, cereals, wonderful fresh fruit and coffee or tea.

Next time we are in the Lexington area, we will not even consider staying anywhere else.

Let me start by saying the owner, Rose, is a real people person. My wife and I truly enjoyed her company.

With that said, what the reviewer from Ann Arbor wrote is on the money and we’ve clearly learned a lesson here. Ask if smoking is permitted in the house or if ever allowed in the home.

The breakfast side of the business here is a challenge too but wasn’t a big deal to my wife and I because we had some filling dinners the previous evenings. We were okay with Rose’s efforts here.

Not all B&Bs are equal and there is no one standard guideline for operations.
