I grew up in Lexington and have fond memories of meals at Merrick Inn. It didn't disappoint this time around.
Located conveniently on Tates Creek Road near New Circle Road, the Merrick Inn offers traditional southern cooking. The restaurant in located in the former manor home of one of Lexington's finest horse farms. The restaurant gets its name from the farm's most successful horse.
You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. They have an extensive wine and cocktail menu and also have several bars with televisions for an after work drink. They have multiple dining rooms including private rooms for special occasions.
I highly recommend getting their sweet tea. A southern favorite and they've got the recipe right.
They make their own dressings so you can't go wrong. The house salad and the wedge salad are my favorites. I ordered the southern fried chicken (white meat) and it was excellent. Perfectly seasoned and fried. The chicken was moist. It was even good the next day - cold! The kids got chicken fingers. These were not your normal frozen chicken fingers. They were freshly prepared and the kids devoured them and the fries. They also had a Georgia peach pork chop that looked great and a pork tenderloin. You can order anything and it will be great.
I would recommend the corn pudding to accompany your meal. They also have many other sides that are excellent.
Don't forget dessert. The bread pudding is excellent. So is Mike's key lime pie. The kids loved the strawberry shortcake.
If you live in Lexington and haven't been you should make a reservation and go. The waits can get long if you just show up. If you are staying in Lexington it is a definite must try.
