“Okay for a drink, but don't go for the food”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

We went on a Saturday for lunch around noon after a visit to the farmers market and we were surprised that it wasn't yet busy, even so it took over 10 minutes just to get menus. We sat on the top level, which was very nice and our waitress, Maureen, was also very nice, but drinks and food were very slow to arrive. We were with kids and the menu was not exactly kid-friendly. Everything on the menu sounded really good, but when the food came it was very below average in both quality and presentation.

“A Summertime Dream-Fantastic Blues and Food”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

A great place to listen to blues on the sidewalk or deck. The bar itself is a bit small and loud but the back area and deck are fantastic. The pork tenderloin was very good. It's in a neat area downtown that has scores of other bars and restaurants many featuring live music. The area felt pretty safe too.

“An average bar with decent entertainment and poor service.”
Reviewed July 26, 2013 via mobile

If you are looking for a decent meal, and reasonable service skip this one. Maybe alright if you're a student or remembering the good times on campus but skip the glowing glossy ads in the hotel magazines. The food is predictable bar food and the waiter said our wine was slow because they had to go "find the wine in the basement" that we ordered. Really? A bar grade Chardonnay ? If you aren't a smoker and you enjoy patio dining choose a place that doesn't seat you next to a table of smokers and not have alternate seating. 2 other couples left for this reason. It could be fun. The location is nice but nothing like the hype if you are a visitor to Lexington.

“Great local spot!”
Reviewed July 22, 2013 via mobile

The place has been around for years Food is bar food fare. They have a yummy burrito. It's a great place to have drinks on the patio. I find the downstairs patio to be the best. People watching is awesome. It's located in the heart of downtown! Lots to see Kid friendly too.

“Not Great”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

First time at Cheapside. Started out sitting on the patio. My son ordered a beer on tap, our waitress came back "we're out," he asked what others were available and she squated down beside talble and reached for the table top list, knocking over the salt shaker and saying "S__t." After getting our drinks and placing our order my son noticed a huge storm brewing and heading our way (arriving in about 10 minutes). We noticed other wait staff asking their customers if they wanted to move inside. Ours was too busy talking to other staff inside the restaurant to notice. We finally went and asked her if we could move inside, her response - "sure, sit where you want." We headed into the bar area because we had overheard another waiter telling customers that the last storm that came out of nowhere drinched those customers sitting in the open air/covered part of the restaurant. When we sat down (most of the booths seating was in need of repair), there was a patron at the bar who was loud and using terrible language (not just a few times, but every other word out of his mouth was f____) - it was obvious he had had a few too many. Other patrons were looking at him, but the bartender did nothing. When another waiter (not ours of course) brought our food to our table (after waiting about 45 minutes) I asked if he could talk to the manager regarding the foul mouthed patron. He immediately went looking for the manager. The manager came to our table and asked how everything was - my food was not even warm, so he did take it back to the kitchen and returned with hot food (much quicker than the first time). He then approached the patron at the bar and took care of the situation. The next time our waitress showed up was to ask if it was going to be 1 check or 2. So you can gather that my experience wasn't great, and the food didn't make up for our waitress's lack of attention. Won't go back.
