Aug 11, 2013: What a wonderful place! They speak our food language. We had the Duck and Waffles and the Scallop & Foie Gras Benedict. Both very nicely composed and delicious. Also tried the Watermelon Salad and the Bread Pudding. Both were yum. (Bread pudding is v.large so they sent us home with more sauce and whipped cream and we enjoyed it again the next day.) The beer list was extensive but we went with a favorite wine on their list. it was a nice place to be dining together.
Too bad Muncie was disappointed (Aug 9 review). I suspect they don't know that speck is a ham.

Dined here Friday, Aug 9, 2013. Very loud, could not converse with companion. Had reservations for 8 pm, still had to wait 20 minutes. We were seated upstairs, there is no elevator, very old building, more folks seated upstairs than on ground floor, one small staircase, looks like a fire would be disastorous. Ordered balsamic peaches as appetizer, sounded on menu fine for a vegitarian, got about 2/3 of one peach with 3 slices of ham and some cheese, none of the protein was in the menu description, waitress called these a "bonus", cost $8. Total bill $53 for 2 people. Ordered hamburger well done, still much pink inside. Defintely avoid if you are over about 27 years old, much pre dinner drinking and shouting by college age patrons.

20 taps include rare beers from Three Floyds: Zombie Dust and Robert the Bruce. Nice but limited bottle selection favors Belgian ales. Good variety.
The duck and waffles is fabulous, with perfectly cooked, near crispy duck that pairs fabulously with the maple syrup. Friendly and knowledgeable service. Moderately loud but cheerful atmosphere.

This restaurant was definitely one of the best I've tried in Lexington. The menu is full of very interesting and eclectic food. Duck and waffles, crab mac-n-cheese, lobster melt. And the bread pudding, the only dessert available.... Amazing!!! Service was fast and friendly. Would recommend this place to anyone.

My fiancé recently went in to visit the Village Idiot for a meal. We sat down to order, and from the look of the menu I had high expectations. It only took a few bites for those expectations to come tumbling down. I ordered the crab mac and cheese. It was described as being infused with truffle oil. This sounded fantastic, and the cook in me says it should have been. The problem is it was not executed well. Instead of being full of flavor it was oily and tasteless.

The place was full of great atmosphere, and the drink prices were reasonable. So if you decide to go, don't go for the food, just go grab a drink.
