Owner description: Victorian Square has been at the heart of downtown Lexington since the 1880’s. The block of sixteen buildings has housed saloons, hotels, restaurants and an opera house.A modern renovation brought them all together under one roof, creating an airy and accessible space listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings. Victorian Square Shoppes & Entertainment offers an exciting and original mix of shopping, galleries, restaurants, bars, also a theater and museum for the kids.

We stopped on Black Friday and had a ball shopping. Father Christmas was there visiting with the kids and handing out elf hats. There were crafts to be made by the kids and live music playing. We shopped and really enjoyed all the employees and owners of the stores. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. There aren't a ton of stores there but it was nice to shop small and we found plenty of gifts. We loved the shop with the shop with the "bath fizzles" and bath salts. You can also scent your own lotions and the owner was very friendly and helpful. When we finished we ate at Saul Good and it was a nice way to finish a fun day of shopping. Don't miss the local Black Friday event next year. It was a day filled with fun give always.

What a gorgeous place. I have never seen such a nice decor and selection of shoppes in a place. It lets you go from on block to another all inside, plus you can get to Rupp Arena.

The economy has really hit this group of stores very hard. Mostly empty spaces, an out of date directory and the smell of sewage permeating the lower level. Some artists located on the top floor.

Victorian Square was a great idea in the 80s, when the block of buildings was retro fitted and joined indoors. Today, it is a somewhat disjointed collection of shops, empty space, offices, and restaurants/bars. There are some really nice shops there (Main Cross Gallery, Good Scents, etc), and the Explorium children's museum is popular with children. DeSha's, on the corner of Main & Broadway, offers Bluegrass-inspired dishes. A number of bars offer local bourbon, dozens of beer taps, and other libations. The atrium and physical set-up are a bit bizarre--floors are joined by ramps, steps, and odd twists and turns, accomodating the original buildings' structures.
If you are staying downtown, or have a specific thing you're looking for (hand made bath scents, local art, fancy dresses, etc.), Victorian Square offers a little bit of everything. In total, though, it is somewhat of a dark oddball project from another era.
