“Really great hotel at great rates.”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Clean, quiet room. Excellent choice close to anywhere you need to go. I am H. Honors Diamond and this one is up there on the top of the list with what to expect from the brand. You would think this would be an Embassy Suites based on it's design. So, that may confuse you at first but regardless, an really great property.

Room Tip: All rooms should be good here as it is set back from the roadways.

Years ago, this hotel was The French Quarter Suites. My husband and I always enjoyed the charming "New Orleans" ambience and the huge whirlpool tubs. When Doubletree bought the hotel years later, we were worried that it would become another boring cookie-cutter chain hotel. We couldn't have been more wrong! Not only have they retained the French Quarter charm and decor, they've invested in even better bedding! Upon arrival, the friendly staff greets you with a huge (delicious) chewy chocolate chip cookie. I'm an incredibly light sleeper and usually don't sleep well in hotels. At the Doubletree, the bedroom has double doors that can be closed. This really helps to drown out any noise coming from the hallway. There are many restaurants close (within walking distance, really). For the price range, this one can't be topped!

Very welcoming staff. Large suites. Bathrooms are in great shape and the tub/shower is huge. Well maintained. Spotless. The lobby area appears to be unused each time I'm there. Perhaps it's used for meetings. Breakfast is served in a separate and somewhat elegant area of the lobby. During my last stay, I asked if I could take muffins to go and the staff was very accommodating.

Overall this is a very nice facility with very friendly staff....once you find it. The hotel is located behind several small strip malls and shops along a frontage road and while somewhat visible from the main drag in front of it, it is not easy to find your way through the maze of dead end parking lots to get to it. Upon check in I was greeted by a gentleman at the door who was very pleasant, offered to help with my bags etc. Of course I received the chocolate chip cookie Double Tree is known for, and check in was very easy. There's also a very nice snack and sundries shop at the front desk. My initial impression of the hotel was that it seemed rather dark and the color palette was ....well...boring.

Wendy and Zehna in Angie's restaurant located within the hotel are the BEST and the breakfast buffet was definitely substantial with biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, pancakes and fresh fruit as well as assorted muffins, cereals, toast, etc. The lunch and dinner menu is lackluster and the meals and appetizers I had were average at best with very little flavor even though they tried to "dress up" the dishes with overdone condiments and plating techniques.

The rooms are very spacious with a sitting room and a bedroom. The bathroom is large but is also your closet with a small designated area to hang clothes in the bathroom. The room had a HUGE whirlpool bathtub and this is also the shower.....so that means climbing over the 2.5 foot high edge of the tub to get in and out of the shower....not so easy for me with my achy knees and impossible for anyone who has any type of injury or disability (There may well be accessible rooms so this may not be an issue).

I had an inside room with a door that looked out over the atrium of the hotel. This meant I had no natural light and the lighting in the bedroom was supplied only by two bedside lamps. This made it very dark when trying to find any items that were still in my suitcase - even during the day. I thought that noise might be an issue but it truly was not. Regulating the temperature in the room was difficult because it was quite warm in the room, and if able to get the temp to go down, it meant the cold air blew directly on the bed because of where the ducts were located.

Another annoyance was that housekeeping staff took it upon themselves to throw away items that were nowhere near the trash can. Example - I always travel with a Britta water bottle. I had the bottle and the small plastic cap for the water bottle sitting on the counter top next to the coffee maker. When I returned to the room later that day - the cap was gone. Not a big deal I know ...but when I travel I like to keep the drinking spout on the Britta bottle clean which is now not possible without the cap. Housekeeping also threw out a couple of other items I had sitting there because apparently they felt they were trash.

Don't get me wrong - I would stay at this hotel again but I just think there are some small issues that when added up, become annoyances. I would definitely eat out more for late day meals and be sure to put all personal items away before leaving my room for the day. If possible, I would request an exterior room as well. Overall an average stay but then again it was a business trip - not a vacation where I would hope for more.

Room Tip: Choose an interior room if you like it darker, and an exterior room if you would like natural light.

Stayed here for a business conference that was being held in the hotel. The room was very large! It had the biggest tub I've ever seen in a hotel room. The staff was very nice! They put up with me messing up my room key everyday by demagnetized it by putting it on my cellphone every day during the conference. The breakfast that was included with the room was very nice. They make omelette to order! If I was ever back in Lexington I would stay here again!!
