“Easily overlooked”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013

We decided on this restaurant based on the Review in AAA book. I was excited by the recommendations for Walleye pike and tuna and other seafood products. However when we arrived these items were not on the menu and the staff claimed not to remember ever having these items. Nonetheless, the menu looked interesting and the prices were very reasonable. Also for a Wednesday the dining room was not very crowded so we decided that the Pork tenderloin medallions with apples sounded very good for $15. The meal included a salad, choice of potatoes and vegetables. I had a wedge salad which came with blue cheese dressing and a sprinkling of dried cranberries, pecans, gouda cheese and some bacon. It was very large and I decided to save some to go with my entrée. My idea of medallions is 3 or 4 half dollar size portions of pork, but my plate contained 3 pork chop size pieces of meet, a huge serving of redskin mashed potatoes and tender buttery snow peas. It was enough for two average size servings. AND it was absolutely delicious!!. The meat was juicy and tender, the potatoes were rich and filling the snow peas - tender and buttery. Regretfully, because we were traveling and could not take part of the meal with us. The waitress was very friendly and efficient.. The restaurant had an ambience of the Old South as it has been part of the hotel for a long time so over all it was a delicious and pleasant experience. Well Done Staff!.

“Thanksgiving dementia horror fest”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

The Thanksgiving dinner event at Kilbern's (Crowne Plaza/Campbell House) was a culinary and atmospheric nightmare. While they still coast on an old local tradition as THE place for the best Thanksgiving meal in Lexington, the only old tradition left would be the people attending: old people. A geriatric hangover from days long lost: lots of nice blue-hair ladies and many with really bad wigs. This has already been mentioned in other reviews, but I'm adding a bit of texture. During the meal, the main thought that came to mind was the imminent need for CPR versus the concept of "do not resuscitate".

As to the food, I don't know where to start. For the sake of time, let's just imagine what a Thanksgiving meal would be like if it is entirely catered by WalMart. The turkey, for example, was presented with every slice being exactly like the other. Think processed by Hormel and extend that notion to the rest of the outsourced food. Awful.

For $30 plus a mandatory 20% gratuity, there are way better and cheaper choices, such as Cracker Barrel.

A "poor" rating is still giving them the benefit of a doubt, however slight.

“Hot Brown done right”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2012

Sometimes you visit a place that is known for something delicious (or so the locals say). Hot Brown and Bourbon - you're in Kentucky. Kilbern's serves an easy dinner with quick service and good food.

Saturday night, they get real loud and dance. Either way, you'll enjoy!

Very good. Looked a bit dead when I ordered. But the food was good for a nice price.
