Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: Experience why Kentucky is world famous! Our fun and informative horse farm tours (approximately 3 hours in length) take you through the heart and soul of Kentucky's beautiful blue grass horse country. Drive by, see and hear the history of Calumet horse farm, home of a breeding and racing dynasty that dominated the sport of kings during the 1940s, 1950s and beyond. Step out and enjoy a walking tour of the ivy-covered grounds of historic Keeneland Race Course, home to the planet's most expensive horse auctions. Take a peek at the thoroughbred horse lifestyle as we take you behind the scenes to explore a premier thoroughbred horse farm and visit up close and personal with their famous horses. We'll even see where scenes from the major motion pictures Secretariat, Seabiscuit and Dreamer were filmed.

I was moved to write this review because I had booked two tours back to back with my 14 year old, horse-love-crazed daughter. I did not realize at the time of booking that the tours were almost identical in intinetary but opposite in delivery. This was our first time in Lexington and I wanted not to miss a thing. Dan picked up up at 8:30 and we had the most informative day. We went to Keeneland Track, watched horses train, then went to the number one Winstar to see how they breed, and sell horses. We were inside, up close and personal. Dan took us to the horses stalls. We were inches from the hoses that won Triple Crown or had been descendants thereof.
I want to contrast this to another tour we took right after, with 40 minutes in between to grab lunch. This tour began downtown and then to the places Thoroughbred Heritage brought us to except that we never left the van!!!. The guide from Blue Gass had 1/16 the knowledge and i felt badly for the other guests who were cheated in comparison to what I had seen and heard just hours before on my tour with Dan. I am grateful that we were able to see Lexington for three glorious hours with a real professional. We lucked out with Thoroughbred Heritage and the other tour for 3 hours, well, I will just forget it.

Great way to learn about the Thoroughbred Racing Industry. Our guide was a "Walking Encyclopedia" about the industry. He was armed with the kinds of facts and information that can only be gathered by long hours of research. Very interesting and enjoyable. Wonderful way to spend an afternoon! We will do this again. We do not recommend many things but we do this!

Dan was outstanding! He was not only knowledgeable, informed, up-to-date on facts and data, but he made it fun too! He filled in every minute with interesting information on history of the area; he taught us a lot about thoroughbred horses, the local farms, and horse racing. He even included the details. What a day! It was much more than we expected. Thanks Dan!

We had Dan as our tour guide and loved him. He was so easy to talk to, full of lots of information and made the tour really fun. The three hours seemed to fly by. I really just wanted to see the horse farms and wasn't interested in Keeneland, but ended up enjoying it. The day we went to Keeneland there was an auction going on and Dan told us all about how this works and we picked a horse to watch the whole way through the process and our horse ended up selling for $270,000. After Keeneland we drove by some horse farms, where Dan would stop the van so we could pet some of the horses, took a stop by the grave site for Settle Slew and then made our way to Old Friends Farm and got to feed the horses. While we were here the owner, Mike, came out and talked to us and told us how the farm started. We learned so much and had a great time.

Beautiful horses, beautiful weather and a thoroughly knowledgable and entertaining guide who doubles as a trainer. We learned an incredible amount about thoroughbred horses and horse racing and we had a great time. We hope to come back and bring our granddaughters.
