This was our first trip to School. The pros: The food is very good. The sushi is, I think, the second best is Lexington. The (pickled) plum roll is particular good, as are the wasabi dumplings and the aga dashi tofu.

The cons: The service on this particular night was abysmal. Our server brought our food out piecemeal, mixed orders together, and never entered part of the order. She never came back to check on us. There were 12 patrons (six of whom were in our group) in the restaurant at the time, so it was a rather slow night. When one in our group finally walked across the restaurant to inquire about the order, the server seemed not to remember anything about it, then blamed the computer for the mixup. The manager on duty apologized, and she offered free dessert to the couple whose food never arrived. (As they had not had dinner, they declined, but appreciated the offer.)

I have to think that our experience was not the norm based on others' experience. It may be a while, however, before we are ready to give it another go.

It my son and his girlfriend for dinner. We ordered a variety of appetizers. He said the tuna sushi was good. None of us cared for the greens. The yakitori was ok. It was the edamame and tempura vegetables that saved the day. Portions were small for the price.

Everything about School is elegant, and the sushi is very good. We tried the Crunch and Munch and the Derby Roll, and liked them both. The Derby Roll was spicy and beautiful. we were pretty hungry, so we were disappointed that it took forever, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. We also ordered the Kare Udon and the Kare-Raisu, both very generous portions and super fragrant. I liked the Udon better than the Raisu, because the noodles are so tasty, and it was steaming hot. One of our friends ordered the Ebi Omu Raisu, which was a delicious omelet of shrimp and fried rice with Demi glacé sauce. We thought it was a bit pricy, as the sushi portions are small, but in general enjoyed it because we could have a conversation, and the service was good.

If you're looking for sushi in Lexington, you must try School. The sushi arrives on a conveyer but there is no sacrifice to freshness. They cut and serve the fish right in front of you. Also a great bar offering and terrific atmosphere. Off the beaten path a little which i think makes it more special. The spicy crab roll is amazing!!! Only down side is they are not open for lunch.

I have eaten at this restaurant several times. Each time the food and service has been exceptional. Not only that, but it is one of the most unique restaraunts in Lexington. They serve both Sushi/Japanese dishes and French dishes. The sushi can be both ordered from the menu or taken off the conveyor belt. If you want a different kind of experience, make sure you get seated next to the conveyor belt. Its a lot of fun to watch them make the sushi and to watch it all circle around on the conveyor. The sushi is in my opinion the best tasting and freshest in town.

They have a nice selection of liquor, including various types of sakes. Save room for desert as well since they have a great selection of confections. Your best deal for desert is the chefs sampler tray. Of course you need someone to share this one with. That is unless you came just for desert.
