Owner description: The only park of its kind in the world, the Kentucky Horse Park is a working horse farm, educational theme park and equine competition facility dedicated to man's relationship with the horse. Set on more than 1,200 acres in the heart of the Kentucky's famous Bluegrass region, the park is THE place to get close to horses! Featuring dozens of breeds of horse at work and at play, the park showcases the horse in daily equine presentations, horse drawn tours, horseback and pony rides, and an array of horse shows and special events throughout the year. The park's International Museum of the Horse, a Smithsonian Affiliate, is the world's largest equestrian museum. Offering both the experienced horseman and novice an opportunity to explore the many facets of humanity's relationship with the horse, the museum is dedicated to all breeds and disciplines of horse and covers some 50-million years of equine history. State-of-the-art technology complements rare artifacts and scholarly research to present a unique, educational, museum experience for all ages. The American Saddlebred Museum, the Showplace for Saddlebreds, celebrates Kentucky's first native breed of horse. The museum features interactive exhibits and a movie. With the park's own tourist activities and the numerous additional horse shows that take place in the equine competition facilities throughout the year, there can be a fair amount of walking involved, depending on visitor interest level. Comfortable shoes and clothing is recommended, appropriate for Kentucky's seasonal weather. Dogs and other pets are permitted on park grounds, as long as they are on a leash or in an approved carrier, although they may not be permitted in some buildings.

“Horse Lover's Heaven”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

This sprawling attraction has something for any horse lover, of any age. From the overall lovely grounds, wonderful show venues, special exhibits of many different breeds of horses from all over the world to the Exhibit of Champions. This exhibit brings out into an intimate arena (under cover) several horses who have more than won their stripes primarily on the turf. Highest dollar winning horse of all time (Cigar) is among those shown along with clips of their famous wins. Gorgeous animals. Check to see if there is a horse show of some type in the huge covered arena. There are frequent events there. There is a special and very enjoyable film in the general museum at the entrance area, narrated by William Shatner. There is at least one restaurant, the Farmhouse. This is a first class equestrian facility, now home to the National Horse Show. Also some touching memorials to some of the greats including Secretariat and Man o' War.

“Southern Lights Stroll”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

This year we decided to participate in the fundraiser for the KY Horse Park Foundation. It's a walk/5K run through the park all decorated in Christmas lights. It was a cool event but I can't say I'd do it again. There weren't as many lights as I thought there would be. It was different to do a walk through the park in the dark. Usually this attraction is open in Nov/Dec to drive your car through and see the lights.

“Take you wallet”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

This is a great place to take the kids during the summer but during the winter months most of the outdoor activities such as the black smith shop is closed. Also things here are a little on the expensive side so bring your wallet.

The Horse Park is a beautiful place and offers many attractions for everyone, whether horse lovers or not. The museum is great and there are activities for children, including demonstrations. For those who appreciate horses, it's simply mecca. Not to be missed.
