Owner description: The only park of its kind in the world, the Kentucky Horse Park is a working horse farm, educational theme park and equine competition facility dedicated to man's relationship with the horse. Set on more than 1,200 acres in the heart of the Kentucky's famous Bluegrass region, the park is THE place to get close to horses! Featuring dozens of breeds of horse at work and at play, the park showcases the horse in daily equine presentations, horse drawn tours, horseback and pony rides, and an array of horse shows and special events throughout the year. The park's International Museum of the Horse, a Smithsonian Affiliate, is the world's largest equestrian museum. Offering both the experienced horseman and novice an opportunity to explore the many facets of humanity's relationship with the horse, the museum is dedicated to all breeds and disciplines of horse and covers some 50-million years of equine history. State-of-the-art technology complements rare artifacts and scholarly research to present a unique, educational, museum experience for all ages. The American Saddlebred Museum, the Showplace for Saddlebreds, celebrates Kentucky's first native breed of horse. The museum features interactive exhibits and a movie. With the park's own tourist activities and the numerous additional horse shows that take place in the equine competition facilities throughout the year, there can be a fair amount of walking involved, depending on visitor interest level. Comfortable shoes and clothing is recommended, appropriate for Kentucky's seasonal weather. Dogs and other pets are permitted on park grounds, as long as they are on a leash or in an approved carrier, although they may not be permitted in some buildings.

The horse museum is fascinating; the shows that are put on for visitors are a delight and the van tour of horse farms is really worth doing. The facilities and grounds are a knock out.

“A great place for not much money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2013

I recently visited Kentucky Horse Park with my Mother who was visiting and we both had a great time. The shows were interesting, well planned out and different from anything we had seen anywhere else. I especially liked the timing so that you could see the shows right after one another and still not have to hurry to the next venue. The complimentary "taxi" service was also much appreciated as my Mom is getting up in years and sometimes tires from too much walking. The museum was comfortably cool and easy to follow the history of the horse. I would rate this as one of the top attractions in Kentucky and hope to return.

“A Fantastic Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

The park is huge and I recommend setting aside several hours to really see everything. It is set in gorgeous grounds and is truly a beautiful setting. All those amazing horses I have heard of over the years were all here - - - well, at least photos, statues and their history. I particularly enjoyed the Museum; could have stayed for hours in there. If you are in Lexington or close by, this is a must see! I cannot say whether there was a fee or not, since I attended as part of a conference.

“Horses, Horses and More Horses”

What a great place to visit. You can just hang out, walk the grounds, visit the museum or watch the overweight houses thy to get some blue grass in the "dry patch." I was there with a group, so we had some special attention, including golf cart tours of the grounds. Really enjoyed the day.

“Worth the Time”

You'll enjoy the Park: lots to see and do. The Champions included Funny Cide and Cigar (two-time horse of the year). Great to see them in person.
