Owner description: The only park of its kind in the world, the Kentucky Horse Park is a working horse farm, educational theme park and equine competition facility dedicated to man's relationship with the horse. Set on more than 1,200 acres in the heart of the Kentucky's famous Bluegrass region, the park is THE place to get close to horses! Featuring dozens of breeds of horse at work and at play, the park showcases the horse in daily equine presentations, horse drawn tours, horseback and pony rides, and an array of horse shows and special events throughout the year. The park's International Museum of the Horse, a Smithsonian Affiliate, is the world's largest equestrian museum. Offering both the experienced horseman and novice an opportunity to explore the many facets of humanity's relationship with the horse, the museum is dedicated to all breeds and disciplines of horse and covers some 50-million years of equine history. State-of-the-art technology complements rare artifacts and scholarly research to present a unique, educational, museum experience for all ages. The American Saddlebred Museum, the Showplace for Saddlebreds, celebrates Kentucky's first native breed of horse. The museum features interactive exhibits and a movie. With the park's own tourist activities and the numerous additional horse shows that take place in the equine competition facilities throughout the year, there can be a fair amount of walking involved, depending on visitor interest level. Comfortable shoes and clothing is recommended, appropriate for Kentucky's seasonal weather. Dogs and other pets are permitted on park grounds, as long as they are on a leash or in an approved carrier, although they may not be permitted in some buildings.

Stopped by the Kentucky Horse Park just before it closed so we didn't see a lot. But, what we did see was rather awe inspiring. The monument to Secretariat is wonderful. The monument to Man of War is awesome. Reading about his history is very interesting. We took a ride around the grounds which are extensive. This is a must see but get there early to experience everything.

“Nice place to spend a couple of hours”
Reviewed July 8, 2012

This is a great place, if not too hot, to roam and watch all of the horse training going on and attend the different shows they have about the horses. They have a wonderful horse museum. Very extensive and the Arabian horse museum is excellent for elementary kids - lots of interactive activities.

“Skip it”

This was not a great take. If there is a competition to watch I suspect it would be much better. When we went the only activity was touring the museum. Unless you are really fascinated by the horse as a species, this will be a "C" level attraction. Half the museum is dedicated to the Arabian horse for some odd reason.

If you can go on an event day and have the museum as a nice extra, that is probably a better experience.

“Awesome Park, Exhibits and Campground!”
Reviewed July 6, 2012

Kentucky Horse Park is awesome to visit. It has beautiful exhibits, grounds, scenery and events. The park's horses are well kept, interesting backgrounds, many different breeds and displays. The staff is very knowledgable and friendly.

If possible, stay at the KHP Campground. Even with the "hot" weather...it seemed breezy and shady. Sites are very nice, pool, laundry, campground store all immaculately clean. Everything is within walking/biking distance, but we did rent a golf cart because we stayed a week.

We rented a beautiful Fifth Wheel camper from a private owner in Kentucky. He delivered it, set it up and picked it up. Everything was included: lawn chairs, extra tables, lawn games, It was 1/2 the cost of the hotel room from the year before.
