Owner description: The only park of its kind in the world, the Kentucky Horse Park is a working horse farm, educational theme park and equine competition facility dedicated to man's relationship with the horse. Set on more than 1,200 acres in the heart of the Kentucky's famous Bluegrass region, the park is THE place to get close to horses! Featuring dozens of breeds of horse at work and at play, the park showcases the horse in daily equine presentations, horse drawn tours, horseback and pony rides, and an array of horse shows and special events throughout the year. The park's International Museum of the Horse, a Smithsonian Affiliate, is the world's largest equestrian museum. Offering both the experienced horseman and novice an opportunity to explore the many facets of humanity's relationship with the horse, the museum is dedicated to all breeds and disciplines of horse and covers some 50-million years of equine history. State-of-the-art technology complements rare artifacts and scholarly research to present a unique, educational, museum experience for all ages. The American Saddlebred Museum, the Showplace for Saddlebreds, celebrates Kentucky's first native breed of horse. The museum features interactive exhibits and a movie. With the park's own tourist activities and the numerous additional horse shows that take place in the equine competition facilities throughout the year, there can be a fair amount of walking involved, depending on visitor interest level. Comfortable shoes and clothing is recommended, appropriate for Kentucky's seasonal weather. Dogs and other pets are permitted on park grounds, as long as they are on a leash or in an approved carrier, although they may not be permitted in some buildings.

“A wonderful facility!”

This is a great place for learning about horses and something you definitely do not want to leave off your agenda when visiting the Bluegrass/Lexington, KY area. You will need to spend 3-4 hours at a minimum to catch all the shows and visit the various museums. They also have a great cafeteria with good food and is not very expensive, especially for families with children.

I went ther twice and I could go back again. It is very large and so much to see and do. If you care about horses this is the olace to visit as they have so much to show you. it is kept so very clean and there is trees so there is shade. I took the horse tour from here to go to other horse farms and the driver knew so much ablut the horse industries in Kentucky.

“KY Treasure”

this is a marvelous place to gain an understanding of the horse industry. There's a horse parade, buggy rides, movies & exhibits. At Christmas there is a auto tour of beautiful lights & displays. The Rolex 3 Day event is held annually as well as other special events. Take the whole family.

“Fun, leisurely day for a family”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2012

Pretty day, lovely scenery, lots of walking and beautiful horses. My son has never ridden a horse, so the 45 minute trail ride by horseback was a huge hit with him. The horses in our group slowly ambled along a well-worn path, which made it safe and non-threatening for a 10 year old (and me, truth be told!). More experienced riders will not be challenged. For us, it was perfect. The parade of champions was great. We got to see some famous horses up close (including Funny Cide). We are not a horse family, so for us it was a good introduction to horses and a unique experience. The museum of horses is VERY well done - they spared no expense. Most kids tire of museums quickly, and ours is no exception, so we spent less than an hour in the museum. However, in that short time, my son learned how historically important the horse was in the development of human civilization all over the world. My husband and I could have spent hours in the museum. The arabian section was gorgeous. Our day was cut a bit short by a thunderstorm, but we did quite a lot in the few hours we were there. I would recommend a family spend 1/2 a day here. It's especially good for families with little or no experience with horses.
