“Little Dragons Tail”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

Beautiful motorcycle drive. There are49 turns in 4 miles. I called it the little dragons tail. The hotel front desk people leave a lot of room for learning hospitality. But the view from the dinning room is beautiful. Breakfast buffet is always the same thing as is the dinner buffet with an exception of one thing changing. we bought the package of two nights with one lunch two breakfast and two dinners. You save a little doing it that way. However, you eat the same thing and that can get boring. The pool was nice, but could use a little more chlorine. The hot tun is about 100 degree we prefer to have it closer to the 120 mark, They have a small game room. pool is $2 a game best table is one close to the vending machine. The one close to the video games tends to take money. The ping pong balls or hockey balls are .50 each. the views from the hotel balconies are obstructed by over grown trees and brush. If they would cut back the trees and clear brush the view would be magnificent! Close to the marina to take a stroll down, there was a boat show the weekend we went. Trip to liberty worth it. We went for the apple pie festival, YUM. Also to see the liberty bell. If you go to the middle of town where the military memorial is take a right at the street in front of it. It is down on left about 2 blocks.

Room Tip: Do not get one with inside corridors to the room, it is across from pool and elevator, can get a lit...

Room was large, beds were comfortable and it was very quiet! Enjoyed sitting on the porch overlooking the woods and the lake. Lots of towels, coffee maker, iron & ironing board and the ice machine was near by. Bathroom tile grout needs cleaning and the bathroom door needs to be
repainted, otherwise the room was fine. We took our meals at the buffet; it was average steam table foods but reasonably priced.

We stayed at the "old" resort, Pumpkin Creek the 1st weekend of August 2013. There are no elevators in this Lodge, which did not bother us, but if you cannot handle stairs tell the staff so you will be housed on the main floor. Must check in at the main lodge as Pumpkin Creek is not staffed. It is remote and very quiet. Our room, on the top floor, had a balcony that was among the tree tops. Very nice room with a kitchenette and La-Z-Boy furniture. Would stay again, but will take our own boat next time since the Marina closes at 5 and we like to boat in the evening.

We stayed Labor Day week. We stayed in room 208 and the view was wonderful, the room was very clean. The staff was very friendly and polite. And we just love Betty. She helped us with check in. The restaurant staff was wonderful. So was the staff at the Marnia. We rented a "Funtoon" for two days. If you go out on a boat you have to go see "76 Falls" It is over by Grider Hill. We will go back next year on vacation. We were very pleased. And don't forget to take your left over rolls from dinner to feed the racoons:)

Room Tip: Stay on the 2nd floor the views are better.

I recently spent 2 nights at Lake Cumberland for work. This is a state park lodge so it is not luxurious but it was very clean and the room was reasonably updated. I had a nice view of the lake from my balcony. in the evening a mama deer and her doe wandered by and later some raccoons were out and about. The television was a small 19" which was somewhat disappointing but I'm sure most people aren't there to watch tv. The room was clean and the staff was friendly. I didn't use the indoor pool but I checked it out and it was very clean also. I ate lunch in the lodge dining room which was pretty good and reasonably priced. The surroundings were absolutely beautiful. There is a large playground for children, there are stables for horseback riding, and trails for walking. I really hope to go back sometime for some R&R.

I have been to several Ky state parks so I knew not to expect a 5 star hotel. We like peace and quiet and this fits the bill. This is a beautiful area and peaceful surroundings. We stayed in a 1 bedroom cottage. Rustic is what we expected and got. Newer furniture and flat screen tv. WE were lucky enough to have cooler than normal July weather and had a camp fire in the fire pit! Great 4 mile hiking trail around the resort area. What really impressed me was the friendliness of the resort staff. We arrived early as we live 2hr. drive from the resort and did not realize they are in the central time zone. Check in desk Staff took care of us and we were able to check in early and the nice lady actually went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. Ate dinner at the lodge, great view and again very friendly and helpful waitress. and restraint staff .It was a pleasure to stay at a place that the staff seems to enjoy their job..........We will definitely be back for more short weekends. Fall and winter prices drop and less people, YAH!

Having grown up frequenting Kentucky State Park Resorts, it has been nostalgic for this Mom to enrich our two boys' summers with some good old fashioned family fun! We reserved the "newer" Wildwood cottages which are described as a chalet style complete with fireplace, full kitchen (equipped with cookware, flatware, dishes, cups, coffee maker, ice maker/refrigerator and enough cabinet/counter storage) and, in our case, 3 bedrooms/2.5 bath 2 story unit overlooking a wooded area. A perfect sized deck is just off the living room which happens to contain rather dated sofa and chairs. The kitchen table is gigantic - easily accommodating 8 around the circular table. Linens, towels, pillows, blankets (plus extras of each) are provided; housekeeping is not included. A well loved grill is just outside the front door; it is recommended to bring additional outdoor seating if you intend to enjoy the outdoors - definitely do! The symphony of sounds as you are nestled in the woods is a true joy - not to mention the sight of deer frolicking just off the roadway is a delight! The entrance to Lake Cumberland is a winding 5 mile jaunt to the main lodge, Lure Lodge. Here is where folks (I think you have to use this word when describing the folksy experience at this resort!) gather for checkers, greet Betty at the reception desk, enjoy a meal in the dining room overlooking beautiful Lake Cumberland or browse the gift shop. At the lodge you will also find the indoor swimming pool and the game room which contains pool tables, ping pong, foos ball and several arcade games. Activities were scheduled Wednesday-Saturday (wish I had known this ahead of time - calls to activities office earlier in the season indicated there were daily activities scheduled but evidently budget cuts resulted in a shortened activity week). Nonetheless, there are plenty of on and off water activities to keep a family, a couple, an individual as engaged as you wish during your stay at the resort. Getting on the water at State Dock was a breeze - our family had access to a boat but with Lake Cumberland being the "Houseboat Capital of the World", one will not be wanting for boating options! I truly believe you could navigate the waters of Lake Cumberland for years and not truly see or appreciate all the beauties of this lake. Our boys had an incredible time on the water and created many memories!
The scheduled activities were varied and family friendly. Additionally, we chose horseback riding (thanks for a great ride, Jarod with horses Mickey and Rebel!), miniature golfing, hiking, tennis, walking, playing on the playground and can even borrow board games for the touch of rain we happened to have while there.
Outfitting our cottage for the 4 nights we were there, we had stopped at a grocery store and loaded the cooler well before arriving at the lodge. I believe a round trip to the grocery store is about an hour so do plan ahead! There is a country store on site which really does have just about everything, but I appreciated having the comforts of home such as fresh produce and other familiar favorites.
We met lovely people camping at the campground, at the scheduled activities, in the lodge, at the dock and in the water - people truly enjoying the beauty of Kentucky State Parks. Visitors may be interested in the FAQ - Family Adventure Quest program which is operated by the parks system. It is a great way to learn more about the facilities across Kentucky. Definitely look this up :)
I sincerely hope the Kentucky State Park facilities remain a priority for Kentucky - they are a rich tradition in a world which is in such a hurry to hurry up. Lake Cumberland invites you to sit back, enjoy the scenery and be present! I am so pleased we enjoyed a few days' getaway at this Lake Beauty!
