Must see in the area if you are in the lake Cumberland area vacationing, visiting. Take the fish hatchery in along with the dam, and you have a great 1/2 day of fun planned for the whole family.

While, you might not think of a fish hatchery as a place to visit, this was a fun find and not crowded! There is a nature center with fun things to look at and a little gift shop. Nice and clean restrooms. Parts of the fish hatchery are outside, and then another section (the hatching of the fish and the wee baby fish) are inside (air conditioned). There are lots of rangers and naturalists on hand that you can ask questions to. I have two boys ages 14 and 9 and they enjoyed looking at everything.

There are multiple trails (with geocaches - if you do that sort of thing) and a stream where you can get a better understanding of the whole fish cycle from egg to releasing into the Lake. There is a section of the wildlife center that also explains the difference between fish found at the top of the dam and fish found at the bottom of the dam.

If you use a GPS or other talking navigational system to get to the fish hatchery, the most humorous part is they will tell you to 'turn onto the dam road' - it brought a giggle throughout our car.

There is no fee to visit - they have a donation box available. Also there are picnic facilities for you to enjoy lunch.

It is very interesting. They have a museum telling about all species of birds, fish, and insects native to this area. You can also feed the fish at the hatchery. See the rainbow trout in all stages of life.

We live near by and frequent the hatchery often. The kids 2 & 5 absolutely love feeding the fish! It's a fun and inexpensive!! After feeding the fish and taking the tour of the hatchery; it's always nice to head over to park. They have two large swing sets for the kids, and a great spot to fish. Bring a lunch or buy one from the lunch shack. The hatchery also has many activities the ought the year for the children. You can pick up a calendar of events when you walk through the door. Oh and lets not forget about the live web cam!!! We love that we can check and see how crowded it is ahead of time. The kids think its funny that they can call up the grandparents and have them watch them on "TV."
