Monday night ... Usually a quiet night in any any pub, but not The Bell, we arrived just after 7pm and there were already people eating, our table was by a very welcoming log fire. We started with a pint of Doom Bar .. good choice.. and a large glass of the house wine, which again was very good.
We chose locally produced Gammon Steak with chips and Stuffed Pork in a Stilton sauce for our main course and this came with dauphinoise potatoes and a selection of fresh vegetables, all beautifully cooked and served on hot plates. !!! Really there was no room for dessert but we couldn't resist the sticky toffee pudding and the brioche bread and butter pudding with custard ..
A very pleasant way to start the week .

table of eleven who arrived bang on 7.30 served our mains at 9.45.no attempts at a reason or an apology.my steak and kidney pudding the size of a christmas pud and packed full was as good as any i had ever eaten.pity that my appetite was thinking sleep.
maybe we had offended the woman behind the jump by querying the cloudy Gem Ale (new barrel on) anyhow she wouldn't take our order for ages, and by that time we were at the back of a slow moving food queue.
rather dampened a 60th birthday celebration.

Booked a table of 8 and the staff helpfully changed some tables around to accommodate us. The pub was busy and, whilst a little slow to come, the food was really good. Hearty pub food in a village Inn. Log fire to keep us very cosy indeed! The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was good. Steak and Guinness pie for me which certainly hit the mark! Great to have a pub we can walk to. Diet starts today!

Decided to book for a meal late on Saturday and the girl on the phone was very helpful and we were given a booking for 2 at 20:45hrs.

We arrived and it was very busy but the manager met us and we were told that the Dauphinoise Potatoes were had run out, very dissapointed as this is the main reason for dining out. But undetered, we were given a choice of tables. Unfortunately we chose the one next to the door which was was the exit to the car park and whenever anyone left to have a cigarette or to leave the door was left open and we had to keep getting up and closing it, it was a very wet and windy night and it would have helped if there had been a self closer on the door to save the inconvenience.

We waited at our table to order and waited and then the manager came and took our order, unfortuantely again when we ordered the Pate, this was also unavailable so had to choose any one.

We then had to wait for about 20 minutes for our starter and only after looking around the young lady on duty apologised and said that they had a large party in and this had caused delays. I have not problem with this but a little communication explaining this would have gone a long way.

The starters arrived and the quality and the portion of food was excellant, with an apology from the young man serving for the lengthy wait.

The main course arrived on time and the food was fantastic,

There was a slight delay when it came to clearing away, but the manager who did this was very helpful and extremely nice.

The bill arrived after we had been sat there for a little while and when we added it up it was not quite right, I pointed this out the the manager and the waitress and it was recalculated and we had been under charged by £6.

Whilst I have pointed out some disappointment and lack of communication, I must also point out that the staff that we dealt with at The Bell Inn, were excepional and would certainly have been my choice for front of house staff, they were friendly, polite and very knowledgable.

I would certainly recommed The Bell Inn to my friends and colleagues. The chef must be commended for the quality of food and the portions.
