The best appetiser there is: Hard boiled egg in aspic on anchovy buttered toast! Yummm! The country ham and friend chicken are also excellent and the Shaker Lemon Pie (with leon peel) is also worth the trip though I forgot to order mine a la mode!!!

“Nice restaurant with a local flair”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2013

The restaurant at Shaker Village near Harrodsburg, KY is a busy place. As the only restaurant on site (and maybe in the area) their reservations fill up quickly. We arrived late morning and immediately made lunch reservations. The food was very good. Our waitress seemed busy, maybe a little overloaded. But she was polite and provided good service. If you are at lunch, you should ask for the tray of pickled vegetables which is usually only provided at dinner.

“I wonder if the Shakers ate this well?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2013

We stayed overnight at the Village and so were able to eat breakfast lunch and dinner at the Trustees' Dining Room. Wonderful historic atmosphere, and the food is very good. Breakfast is a buffet with wonderful biscuits and creamy gravy, along with eggs, bacon, sausages, etc. There was a delicious pumpkin spice muffin that we all loved. The lunch salads were crispy and the tomato tart was great. We all had tasty dinners, including a very tender and succulent pot roast. The vegetable of the day was salsify, cooked in cream, and covered in buttered bread crumbs. Oh my! I bought canned salsify in the gift shop near the front door on the way out, hoping to recreate that. We also had a luscious lemon pie, which used the whole lemon. Simple recipe! We found it in a recipe book in the same gift shop. Great experience, even if it was a little pricy.

“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2013

Wonderful meal – we dined for lunch and liked it so well we came back for dinner which was also fantastic. Most of the food is locally produced so the menu does vary. Good food and plenty to satisfy. We tried to save room for dessert (which looked incredible) but so enjoyed the bounty of the meal that the elastic would give another fraction of an inch. The catfish was the best I’ve ever eaten and there was a tart which is like quiche that was incredible. My husband raved over the beef. Reservations are recommended as seating is limited.

The food was fresh, well-cooked and delicious. Service was excellent. It was nice to have a menu that was a little different from the usual offerings.
