My husband and I ate here 5 times over two days. Breakfast buffet is just average but lunch and dinner were the best. We had Johnny Cakes and Country Ham, Chicken Croquettes, Herb Marinated Chicken Breast, and Pork Tenderloin to name a few. They serve bread and you can ask, free of charge, for pickled watermelon rind and pickled beets. The had a wonderful tomato casserole and also a corn pudding. Great place to eat with a wonderful atmosphere.

We ate dinner here recently to celebrate a family birthday. The grounds are beautiful and the atmosphere is nice, but I have to say, the food at dinner time is pretty bland. On the positive side, we did have excellent service. I have been in the past for breakfast and thought it was much better.

We went here for lunch during the week. No reservations so we had to wait a few minutes, but building is air conditioned with modern restrooms, so no problem with the wait. We were served promptly with our beverages and breads and coleslaw for the table (excellent rolls). We ordered the chicken salad plate and chef salad. Servings were more than enough and the cold lunch was perfect for the hot day. Chicken salad was great, not too much mayo mostly chicken and fruit was fresh. Highly recommended.

Recommend making reservations - we were lucky. I think this place gets very busy as it is the only real place to eat in Shaker Village and not much is around it.

The attitude of the Hostess each morning for breakfast was abysmal, and ended up causing us to cancel the rest of our meal reservations and left a poor taste in our mouths, even though the food was not all that bad. The food and service by the server's was actually ok, but the hostess was the worst. We had a small group of couple's in town for the World Equestrian games and she could not have been more difficult to work with. One morning one of the other couples we were sharing a room with were not awake, so we went ahead and went for breakfast only to be told since we were changing our reservation from 4 to 2, it would be a bit before our table was ready.(Penalty minutes I guess) Since we had already witnessed the hostess in action the previous day telling other couple's that did not have reservations, that they may have to wait 30 minutes to get a table we were not suprised. (Trust me, we ate here several a.m.'s and they were never that busy)....and let her go do her thing. We were not in that big of hurry anyway, so after about 10 minutes (still not hostess back to seat us) another couple from our group walked in and so we found the hostess/warden and asked if we could have our original table of 4. She said that would be "way too difficult" now, and the other couple just said forget it since the breakfasts had been overpriced and not that good to this point. My wife and I ended up staying so we could enjoy more of the humorous behavior by the hostess. They could start a new TV reality show with her.... Atrocious Hostess or something like that

That was the end of our reservations at Shaker Village though, we canceled all of our other meals and made other arrangements elsewhere. There is a great Steakhouse in Harrodsburg we found that night from one of the band members of Montgomery Gentry. Eddie Montgomery's steakhouse, Great Food and Great Service. Go there for your lunch of evening meals!! Do not eat at Shaker Village.

We ate here for 2 dinners and 3 breakfasts while staying at the village. Atmosphere is gorgeous. Can't be beat. The dinners are expensive. They do not change the menu so it was a challenge for me (a vegetarian) to find 2 different meals, but I pieced together some appetizers. The food was pretty good at dinner. The breakfast was a different story. Again same thing every day. A buffet with egg souffle (cold), potatoes (cold) bacon & sausage, fried apples, fruit (melon-so unripe as to be inedible), cold cereal. They found it difficult to keep the buffet stocked with food and clean dishes. The service was not particularly good, either. One waitress had a bad cold (eww), one waiter became very unfriendly when he realized we were eating light (we had eaten a late lunch), the others were just slow and somewhat incompetent. Unfortunately, you're pretty much stuck with the breakfast because of the isolation of the area. You need to make reservations for every meal, even breakfasts.
