The inn at Shaker Village was wonderful. It was such a memorable place to stay, with the impeccably clean rooms and linens...gorgeous setting and the opportunity to experience a completely different lifestyle. The grounds and village are beautiful. We especially enjoyed the huge vegetable garden, while we relaxed on the lawn and just listening to the birds.

Make sure to make reservations for dinner. It was absolutely delicious and farm to table fresh. We also enjoyed the wonderful Shaker breakfast.

This is a must see in our opinion, especially for people who want something unique and different.

Our room was very clean, had a private modern bathroom and TV. Wi-fi was available in the building next door. These are not luxury accommodations. Furnishings are kept as true to the original Shaker experience as possible so everything is rather simple and plain. That being said, if you are looking for a place to get away and unwind, the setting here is ideal. Miles of paths, buildings to explore, gift shops, and a great dining room make up the total experience. Bring some good walking shoes and a book.

My husband and I visited the Shaker Village twenty years ago with our children and always hoped to go back. When we did we were delighted to find the place every bit as special as we remembered. We had a wonderful room in the 1811 Stone Building. It was on the first floor, across from a very comfortable common room with sofas and a working fireplace. We also had the use of a kitchen, with coffee maker, frig and microwave. The talks were very informative. We especially liked the music presentation, which we attended twice. On the first day we were with about 10 adults. On the second day, about 200 school children. The experiences could not have been more different or more fun. The restaurant is great, and we enjoyed getting sandwiches for lunch at the post office, and eating them o wooden chairs on the lawn. Go!

Room Tip: get a first floor room in the stone house and you can spread out to the common room and kitchen very...

The Shakers led a simple life and the Inn gives you a delightful taste of that time. The buildings and grounds are preserved and restored, and the dining menu reflects the cooking of some time ago. We spent a long weekend here for a small conference and thoroughly enjoyed our time.

Our room was in a Shaker building but with electricity, TV, phone, WiFi, and a compact bathroom with a shower big enough for two. The furniture was in the Shaker style, and pegs all around the walls made it easy to hang our stuff out of the way and appreciate a bare, uncluttered floor.

We ate several meals in the restaurant. Options for vegetarians were available but limited and included a salsify casserole (perhaps this is seasonal). Breakfast was either continental (cereal, fruit, yogurt, etc.) or a full hot buffet; both options were economical.

The grounds are acres and acres with a Shaker museum, demonstration farm, shops, and hiking paths. We tried two hikes and somehow got lost both times; we were with other people so we need not blame ourselves entirely. However, we enjoyed traipsing through fields and over stiles, encountering a herd of cows and seeing some beautiful views.

Staff everywhere were helpful and pleasant.

From Detroit, we drove for about seven hours to reach Shaker Village. The last few miles are a winding rural road, on which local drivers can travel much faster than visitors.

My husband and I stayed here many years ago, and had always hoped to return, since it was a wonderful experience. I am happy to report that for us, our recent visit was just as lovely. The queen bed, spacious rooms, authentic wood floors--all made our room comfortable and pleasant. Since we traveled with friends, it was fun to have rooms across the hall and be able to go back and forth easily. Our evening meal --we had pork medallions--was generous and delicious. And my husband was happy to discover their acclaimed and memorable lemon pie is still being served! While the breakfast is a buffet, the delightful setting, lovely dishes, and good service for beverages and muffins made it a delightful spot to linger and plan the day. And if you are at Shaker Village, don't miss the a ride on the Dixie Belle riverboat! Such a pleasant treat--the boat captain kept us informed and entertained, and seemed to love his job! All of the interpreters were friendly and knowledgeable--we came away feeling blessed to have spent a brief getaway at this well preserved and restful spot!

Room Tip: There are many different styles and locations of rooms. We read online descriptions, but were glad...

The houses and grounds are beautiful the gift store dangerous full of beautiful handmade stuff.

We deliberately diverted from the sameness of the chains along the interstate to enjoy a night at this unique historical and pastoral setting. If you want get outside of the ordinary, and experience American history while staying on site in a renovated nearly-200 year old Shaker community National Historic Site, this is your chance. We were fortunate to enjoy the evening's talk about the history during the Civl War with one of the on site historians, who shared with us the unique stories of this former utopian Shaker community that was established in the early 1800's. The rooms are quite comfortable, with period Shaker-crafted furniture, wonderful bedding, and the Inn serves delicious and healthy meals. The sole negative experience we had was upon check in. Having never been to this historical site, and after being on the road for over 7 hours, the two front desk staff were not forthcoming at all about what we could expect. All they could have done was offered basic information (maybe even smiled?) about what the days activities were (or pointed out the useful chalkboard we didn't see until the morning we departed); given us a heads up as to what historical buildings were open; noted the lodgers' discount in the craft shop (which we found out about too late); pointed us to the hiking trails, or shared other basic and rudimentary information and our stay would have been a lot more enjoyable. Might we suggest the front desk ask: "Is this your first time staying with us?" then point out the basics. This would go a long way indeed!

Room Tip: Some of the rooms are in historical buildings with varying distance away from the inn. Ask to be ne...
