Excellent presentations by costumed interpreters concerning all aspects of the Shaker beliefs, crafts and lifestyle. Great family-style dining (a bit pricey), walking and bridle paths, and lodging.

We live a few miles away and are "members". We visit every few months and love taking guests on the paddle wheeler. Gift shops are great.

If you are within driving distance of Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, please do yourself a favor and plan a day here. This is a well-restored area with great history, and even my kids think it's interesting to go on tours and see the buildings and surrounding areas. The food is really great as well, but make a reservation before going, as the seatings fill up fast. Also, try to take a carriage ride while you're there. The driver will tell you lots of interesting things while showing you around the place.

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, USA, is the site of a Shaker religious community that was active from 1805 to 1910. Following a preservationist effort that began in 1961, the site, now a National Historic Landmark, has become a popular tourist destination. Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, or Shakertown, as it is known by residents of the area, is located 25 miles (40 km) southwest of Lexington, in Kentucky's Bluegrass region. It is a National Historic Landmark District.
The history and the presenters are worth the price of admission, and the boat ride is not to be missed. Truly incredible view of the Kentucky Pallisades and High Bridge, and Kentucky wildlife.
We have done the maple syrup collection tour, where syrup is tapped from their own trees and boiled down for excellent syrup you can purchase. There are craft events, and representations of Old Shaker music and traditions. There is always something new and interesting her.

It would have been better if Shaker Village had kept serving the recipies of the Shaker's and not served alcohol. Doesn't feel very historical. Plus, they've stopped using products from the Village's farm. The food is disgusting. But, the history and the presenters are worth the price of admission, and the boat ride is not to be missed. Truly incredible view of the Kentucky Pallisades and High Bridge, and Kentucky wildlife.
