Shakers Village is a very interesting historic site. For the entrance fee of $15.00 per person, you are able to step back in time and relive the Shaker way of life. Plan to spend several hours going through the various buildings. It is a living history as retold by the period costumed people in the various areas of the village, who will be happy to answer any and all questions you may have. You can stay in the hotel there on the property as well as eat in the restaurant. You are also able to ride in a riverboat for an additional fee. There is also a gift shop with snack items and drinks to buy along with souvenirs made at the village. You will leave with a real sense of the tranquility and peace the Shakers embodied in their daily lives. Highly recommended for all ages.

I found Shaker Village to be very interesting when walking back through time to see how the Shakers once lived. You can even rent a house on the property for wedding receptions which is unique.
They, also, have rides available on the riverboat on the Kentucky River.
Animals graze on the picturesque fields and the scenery is very quaint and peaceful.
The restaurant is family style and everything is grown on the land there. You also may stay in the Inn which also dates back to the time of the Shakers.

Plan to stay at least one night and two days...more if you can. This amazing historic site actually allows you to stay in historic buildings. Unheard of in most places. The stars shine brighter at Shaker Hill. Peace and serenity surround you. You will be amazed at how progressive this religious sect was in the early to mid 1800s. The restaurant offers a serendipitous blend of comfort food and light and fresh salad plates. The service is outstanding. You can request to stay in the West Family House which has wi-fi if you need to stay in touch with the world. It's a short drive to Lexington and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail is near-by. My favorite is walking the Shaker Turnpike at night. It is also equestrian heaven. Wonderful for romantic get-aways and family vacations.

We have been guest from time to time at the village for 20 years. We total enjoy the piece and quiet in the evenings and mornings. If you are looking for breakfast in bed, whirlpool tubs, and an indoor atrium, you need to go to Embassy Suites. The viilage tries to take you back in time regarding accommodations, demonstrations, and food. Historically,we think they recreate the Shaker environment very well. It is sad that people giving so so reviews don't comprehend what the village has to offer. Its about the Shakers, not Disneyland!!! It is a place were you go and step back in time, not about computors, electronic games and such. Please understand,we love and use all the modern day items, conveniences and would not necessarily want to live in the past, but as the quote states" how can you plan for the future if you don't know where you've been".
