Description: The Old Stone Farmhouse is an award winning, fine dining restaurant. Set in a wooded valley close to the 11th hole of the Mahogany Run Golf Course, this restaurant is located in a 200 year old restored field house on the lush countryside of St. Thomas. It was created as a stable for a nearby Danish sugar plantation, and the walls are more than 2 feet thick. Ceiling fans and breezes blowing through the valley keep the place cool. The building's distinctive character is shown with native stone walls, original hardwood floors, brick arches, and a charming covered palm-lined courtyard. The restaurant features "Chef Inspired" fine dining in an intimate and elegant atmosphere. The cuisine is ingredient driven and will change with each season. The Old Stone Farmhouse is one of the most romantic and elegant dinner settings anywhere, offering old-world charm and a second-to-none dining experience. Personalized attention makes dining here a delight.

We have been and continue to be avid fans of the Old Stone Farmhouse Restaurant. It's always a WOW experience. Recently, however, they have opened their outdoor courtyard, informal mexican- themed bistro--The Courtyard at The Old Stone Farmhouse. We chose to give it a try last week with friends with high hopes that it would be a great way to enjoy and informal evening and food that is as well prepared as the offerings in the main dining room. We were disappointed!!
While the simple menu focuses on variously filled/topped tacos, burritos, salads, salsas, etc., we still had problems negotiating through the choices. Finding a knowledgeable server...or finding a server at all was next to impossible. After almost an hour, we literally had to walk around the courtyard to get our orders placed. The courtyard is not well lit, so after the sun goes down, the absence of light makes it impossible to read the menu. We tried an assortment of the tacos and our vegetarian friend had a salad. The food was just OK. The worse part was that it was served in plastic open weave baskets with plastic utensils and paper napkins. What a rude departure from what we would normally expect at Stone Farmhouse--even for informal fare. Having a conversation is difficult once the live entertainment start. It's just too loud and intrusive for a dining venue. Also, be warned that after the sun goes down, if you don't hold on to your real wine /drink glass, you end up with little plastic drink cups.
To top it off, a scattered shower arrived mid-way through our dinner. In the courtyard, there is only one small covered area which holds 4-5 tables. So check the forecast ahead of time or be prepared to grab your food and make a run for one of the tables it or get wet. Don't forget to bring bug spray, too!

There's a lot to be done to make the Courtyard a viable extension of the wonderful Old Stone Farmhouse. Given that guests to the formal restaurant have to walk through the courtyard to enter, it just doesn't feel cohesive or consistent with their high standards.

We truly appreciate your continued patronage, and that you decided to give our newly opened Courtyard a try. While a more casual experience is what we're aiming for, it seems we may have missed some opportunities. I appreciate your input on where we can improve. It's certainly not our goal to do anything that could be called a rude departure from what you normally expect, and I can assure you that your feedback is taken seriously. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me again, and I'll work on making the necessary improvement to maintain the experience you've come to love here—no matter which part of the restaurant you dine in.

Sincerely,

Tony, General Manager

We brought our kids which wasn't a great idea but didn't want to miss out on this place. The food was great, love the fact you can visit with the chef but we had to argue with our waiter, you could tell he was new. He told us we were out of several deserts, when we said are you sure, we just saw them he had to go check, sure enough he was wrong. Food was great, I would go again but they really need to train their new wait staff.

I appreciate you bringing your family to see us for a great dinner out together. Please accept my apologies if our server didn't provide you with the exceptional service that we're known for, though. Training our staff is not something we typically fall short on, and I'll absolutely address this. Thank you for the input. I'm glad you enjoyed our cuisine, and we'll be certain to provide service to match next time you're in St. Thomas.

Take care,

During our research Old Stone Farmhouse kept coming up as one of the best restaurants on the Island and we were sold when we saw an article about the chef who had actually cooked for us in Vegas. Unfortunately the chef has since moved on but the restaurant was still very good. The space itself is fantastic in an old stone .. well, farmhouse .. with big ceilings and lots of wood and brick. It was easily the nicest 'space' we experienced. The service was very, very thorough and our service team was really knowledgable on the menu. They have a 'From the Butcher's Block' section of the menu where you can choose different sizes of proteins and mix and match your meal: $35 for 6oz (i think, might have been 8) and $22 for 3oz (or 4oz). The special that night, and probably pretty frequently, was lobster where the large portion was $48, when it came out we realized it was at least a 2lbs+ lobster which is an absolute steal. We shared the lobster with an app of Seared Diver Scallop with Duck Ragout and Crispy Onions ($18) which was delicious and a second main of House Made Gnocchi with roasted pumpkin, pine nuts, herb brown butter and spinach ($34) which was good but definitely not great. They also have a big outdoor area where i guess they play live music most nights but it had rained that evening so it was all closed off. We asked if we could have an after dinner drink outside by one of the fountains and they accommodated us with huge pours of Amaretto. All in all, it certainly wasn't cheap but was probably one of, if not, our best meal of the trip.

This place is beautiful. No view but the design and architecture are incredible. Walls are 2 feet thick made from stone over 200 yrs old. There was kangeroo, ostrich and bison on the menu. There is a lovely patio with live music provided. I HIGHLY recommend this place. Pricey but food is excellent. Very romantic, although service should be much better, not bad though. Just a biit disorganized.

We went off the recommendations of concierge and others and made a reservation at the Old Stone Farmhouse. It is really cool that they take you down to the kitchen, so you can see the meats that they prepare and talk with the chefs. It is also a beautiful environment, with literally the old stone house. However, the food was average and costs more than any other restaurant we ate at on the island. They brought bread with olive oil and balsamic. It was in a slender bowl, where you could not get any balsamic without drenching the bread in olive oil. We ordered gin and tonic and got gin and soda. We would have expected a perfect evening with what it cost.

A perfect evening is what we expect of ourselves as well, so I apologize that we didn't seem to deliver. It's definitely a rarity that our entrees are described as average. Did you bring this or the drink mix-up to our attention? Surely we'd have done something to rectify the situation and ensure that you left with the type of experience you see others sharing here. My apologies that we let you down, and I hope we'll have another opportunity to better serve you, should you return to St. Thomas.

Sincerely,

Tony, General Manager
