Description: The Old Stone Farmhouse is an award winning, fine dining restaurant. Set in a wooded valley close to the 11th hole of the Mahogany Run Golf Course, this restaurant is located in a 200 year old restored field house on the lush countryside of St. Thomas. It was created as a stable for a nearby Danish sugar plantation, and the walls are more than 2 feet thick. Ceiling fans and breezes blowing through the valley keep the place cool. The building's distinctive character is shown with native stone walls, original hardwood floors, brick arches, and a charming covered palm-lined courtyard. The restaurant features "Chef Inspired" fine dining in an intimate and elegant atmosphere. The cuisine is ingredient driven and will change with each season. The Old Stone Farmhouse is one of the most romantic and elegant dinner settings anywhere, offering old-world charm and a second-to-none dining experience. Personalized attention makes dining here a delight.

OK, it was a dark and rainy evening. And if you've been to St. Thomas, you know what the roads - and drivers - are all about. AND driving on the "wrong" side of the road doesn't lessen stress. But go find this restaurant. You won't be disappointed. Housed in an old plantation, it's open and airy setting is complimented by a wonderful menu. Our wait person was very patient and thorough when explaining dinner offerings. Before ordering, though, you're invited to the kitchen to see what's fresh and tempting. As you leave the kitchen, you can pencil your name or favorite phrase on the walls, if you can find an open space. This was a fun restaurant for two sisters, a brother, and spouses to sit, enjoy, converse, and get reacquainted. Try it! But pay attention to your driving.

Visited OSF for aspecial occasion: my sister's 40th birthday. Truly memorable experience and recommended without the slightest hesitation: lovely ambiance, patient and attentive staff, very well prepared and high quality dishes. Only negative: when visiting the kitchen to peruse options, it was incredibly hot and humid - wish this could be addressed.

My wife and I ate here last year and it was fantastic. This year was a sad disappointment. There was almost an arrogance in the atmosphere. Our server was a nice lady but did not offer service. Water stayed empty, no offer of cracked pepper, and a disapearing act for about half an hour while the wine attendant tried to fill in. I'm fine with this type of service at Mc Donald's but I expect more when "fine dining"
On the bright side had the Hatchet Steak a 3.5 pound steak served on the full rib. Very fun meal but get a doggy bag. My wife and I split it and the waitress explained that there was a $20 split fee. WOW $20 split fee on a 3.5 lb steak that no human being could eat in one sitting. You would think the $95 price of the meal was enough! Like I said we sensed some arrogance.
All in All a fine meal average service and a very expensive want to be high end place that use to be one of our favorites.

Maybe the novelty wore off, or the bisson osso bucco was just so, so. Place is fabulous and service is the best for fine dinning. Very expensive, but worth a visit.

Another year, anothet head chef and another disappointment. We keep trying, but keep being underwhelmed by this St. Thomas institution.

The best part of our meal had to be the wine and appetizers. The Scallop in Duck Ragout, the Bibb Lettuce Salad, the Beet Salad and the inventive 'Ruben' Sandwich (pork belly with rye gnocchi, sauerkraut, etc) were great. Once the mains arrived, the evening went down hill. The liver was served nearly raw and wad inedible. The kangaroo was also nearly raw. The scallops were cooked well, but far too salty for my taste. They attempted to make up for some of the disappointment by taking off one of the meals, however overcharged on one of the remaining meais.. Overall, completely underwhelmed again at this 'great' restaurant.

Tammi17, Guest Relations Manager at Old Stone Farmhouse, responded to this reviewResponded March 3, 2013

The Old Stone Farmhouse does have a new chef/operator this year and there has been many rave reviews and positive feedback since Tony has taken charge. It is always nice to hear about the positive feedback, and not always as easy to hear about disappointing evenings. We pride ourselves on excellent service and high quality dishes prepared by our culinary team. The "inventive Ruben Sandwich," which you referred to is a original collaboration of Tony and Chef Chris, as Rueben sandwiches are one of their personal favorites.

As I said prior, it is not always easy to hear about disappointing evenings. I personally spoke with your server and the manager on duty and wanted to know why you felt this way. There were (2) Liver entrees ordered described as "Sautéed Calves Liver, Tomatoes - Bacon - Onion - Asparagus - Potato." Many that do order such a dish might expect this entree to come out the same preparation as in a local hometown diner, but please recall the take on the Rueben appetizer - not the typical sandwich, as many our dishes are a unique twist on our favorites. . The server attempted to make it clear that it was not your typical Liver and Onion dish. There was even special requests for extra onions and ketchup, which the kitchen was quite happy to do for you. The server asked what tempature you would like it cooked, and medium-rare was the response. The (2) Liver entrees orderd, there was only (1) that you weren't happy with, and the server offered to get another entree, which was declined.

Your server did try, within her means, to please you when it was obvious one of the guests was not happy with their entree. When she felt she she had exhausted her resources, she asked the manager to step in. There was an oversight when the computer was updated for the evening and it was not an intentional "overcharge." The matter was remedied immediatly and your check was adjusted accordingly.

The staff at the Old Stone Farmhouse, from your server, the kitchen team and the management made genuine gestures to make your evening a pleasurable one and not for you to feel "completely underwhelmed again at this 'great' restaurant."
