I was recently forced to stop driving due to weather while moving to Alaska for the Army. The staff at Patti's Inn & Suites was extremely friendly and helpful. The gentleman working was even kind enough to offer me dinner. I am very glad that I stopped there and would do it again if I was passing by.

Well, after our first visit, we just had to go back to see how the hotel was decorated. Awesome! The Christmas decorations from the foyer through the doors into the lobby, it was "beginning to look a lot like Christmas." Not only that but each floor had it own set of decorations. Just step off the elevator and take in a view of one of the Christmas trees. The staff was again very accommodating and helpful. It was a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: The mini-suites on the second floor run about $10 cheaper per night and offer almost the same space...

The family and I had been on the road for several hours when we came upon Patti's Inn's and Suites. From the time we walked in till the time we checked out we were very well taken care of. The staff went out of there way to take care of our needs. As for the rooms that we were given, I could not have asked for any better. They were very clean and was as cozy as my on bedroom at home. We would like to tell the staff, thanks for all you did for us while we were there. I have been in several hotels over the years and have talked to several different managers, but after talking to the manager at Patti's Inn's and Suites, I was blown away. Kim went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable. She was able to get us in the rooms we needed and also made sure we know where everything was at in the area. Her and her staff even took us to the store while our car was being worked on. Once again, thank you for everything and yes we will be back again very soon.

The hotel was older and the lobby was nice. However, the rooms (and we had 2 as we moved about midnight to another room) were small and both rooms had airconditioning problems. The air would cut off automatically before even cooling the room. The rooms were very small and needed definite ubdating. We were not able to sleep and should be issued a refund as this was our worst hotel experience in over 40 years of travel. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone. And, if I had not eaten at Patti's in past years, after checking into the hotel, I would assume the retaurant was connected in some way (and it might be), but this would be a disgrace to the fine restaurant in Grand Rivers.

Room Tip: Not sure as we had to switch rooms in the middle of the night due to inadequate air conditioning and...

My family reserved 4 rooms/suites for a family event. At check-in, we were pleasantly surprised by the lobby. It was fresh, clean, and inviting. There was a nice complimentary breakfast area and the breakfasts were good, although things were not replenished in a timely manner or at all when they ran out.

Although we had been guaranteed a handicapped room with walk-in shower, we weren't given any such room at check-in. Upon letting the front desk clerk know we had counted on a walk-in shower, she did give us keys to a single room on a different floor that had a walk-in shower and comped it with management's approval. We never did use the shower. Who wants to walk down the hall in their bathrobe carrying their bathing supplies to another room dorm style during a hotel stay? The family members made do and it wasn't a big deal and we were thankful the hotel made the offer to try to accomodate us.

That's about where the positives end. One of the guest rooms was wet. The family members who were assigned that room are non-complainers and didn't bring it to management's attention. Their beds were literally soaked through. The carpet squished when they walked on it. Their shoes squished with wetness in the morning when they put them on. It was clearly from condensation. The air conditioners are the old fashioned, under the window kind. It's clear the hotel knows there is a moisture issue because they have attempted to mask it with heavy duty, industrial air fresheners. There is little or no ventilation. If you cook in the microwaves, expect the room to smell like your food for the duration.

Another of our rooms developed a stopped up toilet at about 10:30 pm. The elderly occupants (the ones we were there for-50th anniversary) called the front desk and were told to come and get a plunger. When they explained they were handicapped (hello, these are the ones who needed the handicapped room), the clerk brought it up and handed it to them at the door. There was no offer of assistance. They stayed up for 2 hours plunging the toilet. At some point, they received a phone call from the front desk that there had been complaints of them being too noisy. Ummm, they were doing the hotel's job and trying to unstop the toilet. The front desk never made the connection. We did when we read in the guest services book that the plumbing was loud and to please close your bathroom door to help prevent noise traveling to other rooms while flushing toilets, taking showers, etc. The toilet continued to stop up the entire time they were there. So the anniversary couple spent the bulk of their anniversary weekend plunging their toilet.

The staff was nice enough, but it was clear they were understaffed and had not been adequately trained in the hospitality business. There didn't appear to be any maintenance staff (otherwise, why made guests plunge their own toilets). The front desk was rarely manned. The clerks could usually be found sitting in a back room behind the desk playing on electronics, texting, etc. We would sometimes stand there for a while before they looked up and got up to help with whatever we needed. The seating in the back room faced the door and desk so they could be seen clearly doing their personal business. Quite a strange set-up for a break room.

The hotel doesn't appear to be computerized. The clerk had to add up our 4 rooms on a calculator to let me know the total amount. I gave a card to be run through for charges upon clerk's request and assurance the one we used to guarantee the rooms by phone wouldn't be used. Part of our charges went to that card and part to the other one.

The rooms that aren't suites had no comfortable place to sit. Most have at least a desk chair and/or a small occasional chair. One of ours had no chair at all, even though there was a desk. The only place to sit was on the edge of the bed. There is a window seat in each room. Some had cushions, which was nice, and some didn't. Having 4 rooms, it was very obvious which ones had been updated and which ones hadn't. The overall decor was a little charming, but also very outdated. There were lots of dust catchers such as old school fake plants and flowers.

One of our parties forgot an electronic item in their room. They knew exactly where they left it (plugged into an outlet to charge. When the hotel was called 2 days later to inquire about it, it was nowhere to be found.

I could go on, but I'll stop now. This COULD be a cute, quaint destination hotel if some of the maintenance and staffing issues were taken care of. It appears there are good intentions, just no owners on site to carry them out appropriately. When we asked a clerk if they were affiliated with Patti's 1800 settlement, instead of talking up the family business and telling us we should go visit the restaurants/settlement, they said no, they just capitalize on their name! Clearly there is indeed an affiliation! Some out of town family members that came to the hotel to visit with us in the lobby commented how quaint the lobby seemed to be and that maybe we could have a family reunion there. We quickly put that idea to rest with our varied and numerous stories!

Room Tip: The suites are much better than the rooms for not much more money. Ask for one of the updated rooms...
