“Great 3-night stay”
Reviewed May 2, 2011

Here for 3 nights while attending the Rolex Kentucky 3-Day Event at the Kentucky Horse Park. This hotel is only 5 miles from the horse park, making it a perfect location. Walmart, several restaurants, and a Starbucks nearby. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Stayed in a second floor king room with a shower only instead of the usual shower/bath combo. Water pressure was great (which is something I don't have at home) and plenty of hot water on all but the third and final morning of our stay. Bed was a bit firmer than I would like, pillow assortment was nice offering soft/firm choices, and towels and sheets were of good quality. A washable blanket took the place of the often seen comforter. Room also included a microwave and fridge which was a handy option.Staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Planning to stay again for next year's Rolex event. Though the hotel offered a limited bar menu and breakfast, opted to eat at other locations. Waffle House nearby was a great choice for good, inexpensive food and great service. PF Changs at the Fayette Mall in Lexington was a fantastic dinner choice.

Thank you for the wonderful comments. We are the closest hotel to the Kentucky Horse Park with convenient interstate access. We look forward to seeing you again this year for the RK3D.

We stayed here two nights while our son was playing in a collegiate golf tournament at the very nearby Cherry Blossom golf course. Perfect location for us. Convenient to lots of restaurants and very close to the course. Our room was nice, big, and clean. We enjoyed the free wireless and big screen TV. Bed was very comfy. We joined the Holiday Inn Priorities club and got buy 1/get 1 in the bar (and half price appetizers but they were out of the only ones we wanted to try). They had a breakfast buffet but it was extra and really didn't look worth the price (sorry!) The only thing I noticed was someone playing their TV very loud very late at night and the funny sounds the pipes made was annoying during the night, but Im a very light sleeper. We booked on priceline and got the room for $54/night so we were very pleased--and to top it off our son finished 2nd out of 125 golfers so it was a good weekend! :) We'll probably try to stay here again when we go back next month for another tournament.

Room Tip: try priceline

We traveled to Lexington to spend the day at Keeneland with our 3 year old daughter. This hotel was perfect for what we needed- affordable, clean, and family-friendly. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It is close enough to Keeneland but not as pricey (or as booked) as hotels closer to the track. It's also close to a number of restaurants. Very happy with this hotel.

Many people don't know this, but Holiday Inn was started many years ago by a man who was looking to create a consistent lodging chain dedicated to families that are traveling. When Holiday Inn first started, it was one of the only hotel chains that allowed children to stay FREE! (Everyone else charged for each person individually) I am glad to see that our mission still holds true to this day.

Tell you family we said hello!

I had originally submitted a good review for this property, based on a one-night stay last fall. Based on a stay over this past weekend I deleted that review and filed this one.

I booked this stay using a Priority Club free night. My first shock upon arrival was that the property was going to charge me not only for the night, but also for an additional fee. I checked in, since I had been on the road for five hours, but had to a spend a not-insignificant amount of time on the phone with 1-800-Holiday to get it resolved. I am not sure it was resolved, and fully expect to see a charge on my credit card. I am fully Convinced the staff, including an overly-officious clown who identified himself as “The Auditor” don’t know what they are doing.

But that was just the beginning.

We found the telephones did not work. One was totally dead, and the other only functioned to call the front desk, so we had no choice but to use our personal cell phones to call to complain about the room to IHG, etc. The television did not work. The sound came through fine, but there was no picture. The hotel suggested at first we “wiggle the wires” on the back of the set to get it to work, but after doing so the picture still did not come on. They offered to come into the room to “repair: the set, but as it was well last past 11:00 PM I declined.

We had no choice but to lay there in the evening and listening to the plumbing in the floor above while trying to get some sleep. But this would not, of course, be a full night’s sleep. We were awakened not terribly long after 7:00 by the loud sound of a vacuum in the next room. Yes, the walls are this enough that you can hear EVERYTHING in adjoining rooms, including an ambitious maid.

We showered, got out of there, cancelled the balance of our weekend plans, and headed home.

Some other observations:

1. Why would anyone want to belong to a program such as Priority Club which seems to delight in giving crappy rooms to those earning “rewards?” IHG properties were always my first choice before, but I am not so sure they will be in the future.

2. The lobby and Restaurant/Lounge combination smell of cigar or cigarette smoke. This may be due to the horde of patrons smoking outside the entrance or from another horde smoking outside a propped-open door behind the lounge.

3. The patrons of this property appear to delight in “partying” in cars in the parking lot drinking what appeared to be alcoholic beverages out of brown paper bags.

4. As I noted in another review, the bucolic offered by this property is the backside of a Wal-Mart.

Room Tip: If you want a good room stay elsewhere

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. The room was big, clean and comfortable. There was a fridge and microwave in the room. The staff was very friendly. The hotel is easy to find and is close to resturants and stores. It has a swimming pool, but the water was very cold. It also has a fairly nice fitness room. On the downside, the walls are fairly thin so you can hear the TVs in other rooms. Also, the banquet room guests spilled out into the parking lot and were rather loud. We could also hear the music from the banquet hall until they left. Next time we will get a room away from the parking lot and banquet room.

Also, there was no hot water our entire stay. When we called the front desk, they told us they were having problems with the hot water and that we should just let the water run for 5-10 minutes and then it would get hot. We did this, but it only ever got lukewarm, and then after a couple minutes it would go ice cold. We called the front desk a few times and were told they were working on the problem. It was not resolved by the time we left. This was the only major problem that would prevent us from returning.

I am very sorry about the water issue you experienced during your stay with us. Our staff should have been pro-active in contacting guests about the issue and warning guests as they called or booked reservations until the issue was resolved and I am very sorry that this did not happen while you were here. I assure you that these issues are a thing of the past. I hope you stop in and give us another chance to show you that we take reviews like this to heart and work on creating increased customer service routines.
