This is one of the best capitols anywhere. Its so easy to walk around. There is no traffic. You can park right by it and walk up to it very easily. It’s clean nice and surprising that the Capitol is in a town this small. I love Frankfort and the local area.

Took the self guided tour of the Capitol on a Saturday morning. It was basically empty and was neat exploring the beautiful building on our own .

Compared to many state capitols, this one is unusual in the way it’s situated on a wooded hill with expansive, immaculate grounds. Parking options are not well marked, but we found easy parking on a tree-lined boulevard with colorful plantings in a grassy median. From there we walked many, many steps to the entrance ... on a day when a group of citizens expressed grievances by chanting in the rotunda. We missed the last guided tour at 3 and were given a binder for a self-guided tour. We spent an hour exploring the three floors, and it’s immaculate inside as well. There’s so much marble and detail in the 1910 building you have to wonder at how it was constructed in four years. The staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.

We stopped here to get pictures of the floral clock and the building is so beautiful we had to take pictures of the outside. We did not go inside however.
