Take time to do a guided tour so you don't miss the murals in the ceilings, the reasons particular people are in particular places, where the marble came from, etc. Doll lovers will enjoy the cases of First Ladies in their inaugural finery.

The marble and granite are impressive. The paintings in the rotunda dome tell stories of the progress of Kentucky but each contains a mythology character. The grounds offer a rose garden and a Governor's Mansion. Many of the herbs used for cooking in the Mansion's kitchen are grown in the Mansion's own greenhouses.

Governor James B. McCreary, the first Governor to live in the Mansion, was also the last Governor to ride in a horse-drawn carriage. The freshly constructed carriage house was quickly torn down to make way for a newer, more modern garage. quarries in Kentucky." The Beaux-Arts design owed a great deal to the Petit Trianon at Versailles' whose interiors were in neoclassical French taste. The landscaping design for the mansion was developed and implemented by William Speed[4] of Louisville (Speed Musem named for him),

Took the family (Mom, Dad, 10 & 20 yr old kids) for a morning tour, 9am. Had a great tour guide & we were the only people at this time. Yes, the bathroom should be updated and the House & Senate rooms are getting ready to be painted but..... This is one impressive building!! Would highly recommend going on the tour! Our guide was very informative, she obviously knows her facts! The marble, the columns, the ceiling in the judicial chamber, the new paintings in the rotunda....Well, you just have to see it. We ended up being there on tour for over an hour. Impressive building. Beautiful landscaping. Made me Kentucky Proud!

Come on Kentucky... clean it up ! The rotunda looks nice though.....but we have seen cleaner restrooms in a Georgia interstate rest stop... and the mold and mildew around the skylights and HVAC vents in the House and Senate rooms is disgusting. The lichen and mold on the stone over the main entrance is getting bad too. There is water damage in many areas. You need to give your facility maintenance department a little ( a lot) more funding. ..... and NO i am not connected with them nor do I know any of them. Even my wife commented on how much better the Florida State House is kept. As a native Kentuckian, I am appalled. Please give the Capital the attention it deserves!
