“Bring back the old armor!”

Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor
Ranked #1 of 2 things to do in Fort Knox

History is always interesting! Previously visited the museum several times with visiting friends and family, and would have rated as excellent. But the last visit had very little exhibits. It seems all the big exhibits with armor have left. Small, but nice exhibit on Patton remains. It would be much better and would entice more visitors to get back at least some of the tanks and large exhibits...

Almost all of the armor that used to be parked outside has been removed as armor training migrates to Georgia. This was always one of our favorite parts to look at when we visited, but the remaining indoor exhibits are still very good and this is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

The indoor portion of the museum is divided into two main sections: one half dedicated to Patton's life and the other half, which houses an ROTC exhibit.

There is also a good sized gift shop to pick up some Patton souvenirs or other military themed gifts.

If you are an army buff or just patriotic, this is a guy's dream visit. Fascinating stories and tanks the kids can climb on. Ft. Knox has forever been the center of tank training.

At one point, the Patton Museum was filled, wall to wall, with information and history about General Patton and the Armory. Now, it is barely just two rooms of random memorabilia and mannequins. The outdoor portion used to have tons of tanks, helicopters, and more. Now, there are maybe 5 tanks.
It is disappointing, for sure.

I have been here several time. I went to a battle re-enactment with our German student and her family. It was awesome to share the experience with them. The museum itself has wonderful pieces to show the era and tells a story they can only hear and read about. Love this place.
