Stayed for 1 night after buying wowcher for £39. Checked in at bar. Took to our room number 5. Large bedroom and bathroom very clean! Spotless! Views over the river were gorgeous! Even more so on a sunny day! Ate in bar at night and couldn't fault it! After being stuck in traffic for 5 hours we were glad to arrive!! Would love to go back!

Arrived for a 3 night stay on a Sunday afternoon, bar was busy with locals so wasn't sure where to check in, but once we spoke to the Staff. everything just went like clockwork... was shown to our room which was lovely, it was a family room (only 2 of us) with plenty of space and so clean and charming.. the decor was 1st class, the en-suite big and bright, it had everything, plenty of towels, shampoo and shower gel, cotton wool and buds.. hairdryer, complementary tea coffee etc, which was re plenished when needed. The view from the bedroom was of the River Severn, rolling hills and plenty of wild life to look and listen to.. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful, full english was not greasy and not to be missed.. again staff 1st class and friendly, the landlady Katrina always around to make sure everyone was happy, Ate in the restaurant twice, it was great value for money and cooked perfectly. Drinks are very reasonably priced, so all in all this place is a winner. The staff make it the place that it is. Will be back !!!!!!!

Room Tip: Room 1 is above bar, so could be a little noisy, but didn't bother us

It's been a very long time since we were last here - at least 6 years I think. I remember it as a decent pub but with a 1970s feel. Not anymore! They must have spent a fortune doing up this pub, which is very conveniently located next to the Severn Valley Railway station.

There were plenty of chairs outside to enjoy the gorgeous views of the River Severn. We were lucky as it was a sunny spring day. The outdoor decking on the balcony was great, with plenty of seating or you could sit on a bench nearer to the river itself. We didn't as we had a toddler running around and I didn't want to recreate a Baywatch rescue scene in the Shropshire countryside!

We were only here for drinks and didn't stay. I had a pint of Hobsons Town Crier and the missus had a large white wine (sadly not that chilled). Cost about £6 We had friendly service and the best thing was being in earshot of the wonderful chugging and whistling sounds coming from the Severn Valley Railway.

Once you have found this little rascal...you are in for a treat. Hidden down some snaky little roads and bends the trip is worth it when you round the last bend. However, I would not like to be coming back up in the snow or ice!!
I have to be honest and say that the exterior of the Ship Inn does leave one 'wondering' as you approach. However, it has to be said that there is a lot of building work being undertaken to the left and rear of the property and that should be over with in the next few months.
There is a large car park and the views are to die for. The booking in process can be a little daunting too. Entry to the pub side of the hotel on a busy Sunday afternoon it does not become obvious as to where one should report! However once you find the staff, they are very friendly and helpful. Bad point really is that the accommodation is accessed via a walkway outside the building next to the kitchen. Bad point, there is no lift. Extensive decking front area I think would be very busy and well worth sitting and breathing in the view in summer months.
Once inside the accommodation is a very pleasant surprise. Obviously recently refurbished with new good quality carpets and decoration the rather steep incline of the stairs is not for the physically challenged...especially with a case or two! Once in your room though the smile appears on your face. Clean, warm with good ventilation, friendly, spacious even and a 'small' en-suite is adequate with 'some hot water issues but extra large towels.. The beds were very comfortable and clean. The views from our room at the front of the river frontage and the farming hills opposite are simply spectacular. A small point. The TV was wall mounted and would not move so as to allow for viewing from the bed.
The staff were extremely good, behind the bar, in the restaurant and at breakfast and Ann is an excellent asset to the owners. The food is a of an first class quality and there was loads of it. Try the fish...it has to be done! Fabulous and excellent value! Menu allowed for early birders starting at £5. specials board was good as well. For the drinkers out there just to give you an idea on prices, Fosters or Carling lager at £3 and a large Pinot G for £4...not bad at all. Breakfast was great. We did not eat again till evening!
To Summarise: If you are looking for the Ritz...don't go! Well worth the money if you are looking for a well priced break in a nice isolated location and good hotel facilities. Be aware, this is a 'locals' bar and apparently the bar can be a little boisterous on weekend nights! We slept well.

Room Tip: Front views are excellent. Stairs are steep though and no lift!

We had a lovely stay (with a Wowcher) at this great pub in such a fabulous location. It is a proper pub with several real ales, log fire, an extensive menu of appetising pub grub, live entertainment on certain Saturdays and it also has very well appointed bedrooms. We were made to feel very welcome including allowing us to order food beforehand when we knew we wouldn’t be arriving until slightly after 9.30pm when they stop serving, the room wasn’t missing anything (and in fact had some things which you can’t assume will be present in a hotel room such as cotton wool, face cloths, an extra towel each, a clock on the bedside table, hot chocolate, biscuits) and had a lovely river view, and the cooked breakfast was also above and beyond (eg beans as well as tomatoes). As well as all of this, the pub is in an unbeatable location right by the river Severn and a few steps away from Highley station on the Severn Valley Railway. A special mention for Lisa who was the life and soul of the Saturday night party but still managed to be bright eyed and bushy tailed at breakfast the next morning, which is more than can be said for us!

We booked using a voucher knowing little or nothing about where we were going. The Ship is a very welcoming pub/b&b in a beautiful setting. The staff are all very friendly and efficient, the rooms are well thought out, comfortable and clean and the food was lovely. A great base for lots of different activities and interests in a lovely setting. The outside space has been well done and I would imagine is a fabulous spot for a meal and a drink in the summer.

Like most recent reviewers My wife and myself purchased a voucher for 3 nights Band B with one Dinner included. We decided to travel on the Sunday and booked the Carvery. On arriving at the Ship Inn we went into the pub part. The pub was very busy mainly with people eating the Carvery and some around the bar partaking of a odd drink!!!.
My wife and I sat in the bar for about an hour, mainly because of the friendliness of the "locals" one of whom tried to teach my wife the local dialect.
Whilst sat down I noticed that as with most Carveries peoples plates were slightly over full but what surprised me more was that nothing was left by the people.
Having booked into our room we headed for the Carvery, this was given has a two course to us instead of our "free dinner" and I have to say the Carvery was excellent, you received big slices of meat and despite my wife not been a big eater she did not leave anything(in fact we were still full next morning). In fact I would say if you are ever nearby on a Sunday then drop in for the Carvery.
The Ship Inn is an excellent base for Steam Train enthusiasts,Anglers and Walkers,I would hope we can return especially in Summer, the rooms are clean but possibly not worth the rack rate but the food is excellent including breakfast. The Staff are very friendly and Highley is midway between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth with the town of Bewdley nearby.
We visited Ironbridge,Telford,Bridgnorth and Bewdley.

Room Tip: I would imagine there would be a bit of noise outside front rooms in Summer but by getting back room...
