Having visited this island National park a few times in the 90's I always wondered when a decent camp/lodge experience would be established. It wasn't easy to get there then but now it's a piece of cake! The beauty of Rubondo is special and my visit in late November last year was delightful. It's all being upgraded right now I hear and after any dusty or muddy safari I would prefer this type of experience to any beach! The atmosphere at the 'new' lodge is peaceful and one feels immersed in central African forest at once. A great contrast to the open plains of the Serengeti! The fishing is great fun and the hikes around the island are beautiful but its the overall natural history diversity and the serenity that is so rewarding here. The birding is great!
