“A good peaceful spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2012 via mobile

I ve stayed for 2 nights in sully resort. The place is lovely. As others had said the hotel is ran by teens that try they best to answer all your questions. If you want to complain about something or simple ask something a little bit different, like your breakfast to be served before 7 am, it tend to be harder, but with a little bit of patience they get it for you. It's true that the hotel is being refurbished but i've always had a peaceful sleep. They stop the works at 6 pm and start them around 8/9 am. Regarding the hotel you are in the middle of rice fields in a rustic place, a perfect location to relax, read or enjoy the nature sounds. The swimming pool is very nice, the spa is also very good and you should try the indonesian massage. If you want to relax this is the place. Regarding the rooms they are big, clean and decorated in a modern way. The bed is very comfortable and the pillow was the best of my trip. The bathroom is also very clean. The breakfast is also good. The fruit with yogurt is delicious!
the only negative aspect is that the hotel is faraway from ubud center and if in the evening you want to grab a beer in the town you must pay attention to the time. At 2 am there are no taxis or motobike to comeback!

You are right sir when you say Suly Resort is a GOOD PEACEFUL SPOT! And we can not have that peaceful spot if we will allow our guest to stay even up to wee hours of the morning. But now you can get your beer from our bar, which will close at 10 pm, before you go back to your room. Looking forward to see you one day and drink cold beer at 2 am when I am the manager on night duty!

This resort, just outside of Ubud, was a great find. Our newly renovated room on the top floor a four-storey building overlooked rice fields and two swimming pools. The workers were all supervised students, learning the hospitality trades. Food was prepared well and served in an attractive way. One of the two restaurants serves only organic food, some of which is grown on site. The atmosphere is quiet and gentle and there is a spiritual vibe that is very relaxing. The students always greeted us with smiles and they were a delight. The guest rooms had every amenity that we could wish for. Service was efficient, including in-house laundry and complimentary taxis ready to take us into Ubud. There are opportunities at this ashram for volunteers to teach English and any aspect of hotel management. Recommended for families.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms facing the rice fields.

It was supposed to be a two night stay, but my wife and I had the pleasure of staying for over a week. During the course of our stay we met couples who frequently returned to Suly on their trips to Ubud and people who were yet again extending their stay at the resort. In the beginning, we were curious about why people were so enchanted by Suly. However, by the end of our trip, my wife and I were among those who fell in love with Suly, having deferred or canceled parts of our trip elsewhere in Bali because we could not leave! Suly was serene, the food delicious and the guests and staff so friendly! It was the Bali experience we were hoping for and did enjoy at Suly.

The accommodations were great: the room (in the new construction) was large, modern and spotless. I could sleep in the bed all day, but there are so many place around Suly to lounge around lazily all day. You could also walk into Ubud; it's only a 20 minute leisurely walk (though the taxi drivers in town will exaggerate the distance to induce you to take the cab and to pay a higher fare). Suly also has free shuttles to/from Ubud, which we found too packed and hectic so we appreciated a little distance from town center. For us, the best part of Ubud was Suly so we mostly just stayed at the resort and once in a while wandered into town to shop or to watch a show (though Suly also puts on shows during Wednesday and during Suly's dining club event throughout the day on Sunday).

As other guests have commented, Suly runs an education program for over 100 underprivileged children. The kids are wonderful and it's endearing to watch them practice English (which will be the best English you will hear in any resort in Bali), among the other languages that they learn there, and eagerly study in groups. We wound up being on a first name basis with several of these students, and we look forward to seeing them again when we return to Suly.

My experience in Suly had been so wonderful and homey, I couldn't exactly say bye bye to the place and Ubud as I initially planned out my trip for two days; two days turned into five days, and even that didn't seem long enough.
A room that I stayed in was very well kept and clean, and comfortable.
Yoga classes every morning was wonderful; the space it was held was open studio with fresh morning breeze, peaceful rice field views and sunrise.
Lounging around pools seemed like a perfect activity to do after delicious, simple and healthy meal from restaurants.
All the staffs especially the students, I ADORE! They were very helpful, genuinely pleasant and warm, which was big PLUS point for me.
Will I go back there? Absolutely!

Lovely hotel, big rooms, marble floors.
Rooms are far enough from the road, it’s very nice to relax on huge balcony in the evening.
Marvellous Garden, looks like real jungle with statues.
Rice field view, traditional Kecak dance for guest, pleasant and polite staff, good breakfast.
I wish we could stay another two or three days in such a cozy place.
Ps. UBUD is very nice town.

I really wanted to like Suly. It supports underprivileged children access education and employment and it certainly sounded peaceful and interesting. I booked in advance and paid in full for 7 days in what was advertised as a Garden View delux villa for a family of 4. When we arrived, we discovered (eventually and not until the next day) that the room we had booked had been double booked, would remain so for the next 10 days, and with no explanation and even with a statement that we were being upgraded to a more expensive room (!!) we were instead given two seperate rooms in a recently built ubiquitous 4 storey Western style building that at that stage was not even mentioned on the Suly website.

It took until the next day to get an acknowledgement that we had not received what we had paid for. By then our experience of Suly was that it was simply depressing. Poorly maintained buildings, disorganised and not in a Bali way - just disorganised - sparse gardens, a woeful spa, a ridiculously expensive restaurant and lots of other guests who had also ended up in rooms that were not what they had paid for or booked. The modern 4 storey building feels like a dormitory in a scout camp, and they have a real problem with sewerage. For those with any mobility restrictions, be aware that the 4 storey building has no lift. The children are delightful and keen to assist but had little idea about what they were doing. We were told that new management had been brought in to improve Suly - they certainly need it.

It is a good half hour trip by car in medium traffic into Ubud, and the location is not attractive for just meandering around streets and rice fields. But yes, if all you want is to see rice fields, then until the next development goes up, you will definitely see rice fields from most parts of the hotel.

We were so disillusioned we left after one night. So pleased we did. While I appreciate that they refunded some of the money we had paid (after a few days), and I hope Suly succeeds, I will not be going back.

I guess if you are awarded with a room in the old buildings, you'll like this hotel a lot. But most of the rooms are in a new building, not so cozy, with no elevator (and four floors).

The worst thing is the noise. You'll hear cocks from 5AM in advance, but some people doesn't mind about this...BUT in a lot of rooms you can hear machines working all night long, and not just the typical AC, but also pressure pumps really noisy and annoying.

The next unacceptable thing is the toilet. It's really small and unfinished, with no tiling. It smells a a lot... stinks.

Breakfast is not bad, but there isn't a lot of variety. I'm sorry to say but the stuff is very unprofessional... actually that could be because most of them are in fact... KIDS!!! Yeah, sadly that's legal in Indonesia...

The hotel is far from the centre of Ubud. There supposed to be a shuttle bus, but just three per day... you'll finally pay a taxi... but not in the night, impossible to find, so you'll be trapped there.

Even though, if you get the discount you deserve (we paid 45$) is not the worst option in Ubud. The pool and the surrounding are really nice.
