“A beautiful scenery in very busy Ubud”
Reviewed July 30, 2013 via mobile

First time in Ubud for us. We chose this hotel based on the previous reviews. I have to say that the scenery of the hotel is fantastic. We were in a pool villa with a great green view over the river canyon. Serie 6 villa, sounded a bit calmer then the other villas closer to the entrance.
The spa is great. The pools very nice. I would probably not go with children there.
Also we have been a bit unhappy about the main restaurant which serves average food in a very dull room. I would advise taking the navette out every night to go and eat in the city!

How beautiful, & peaceful, & special can a place be? No words of mine can do full justice to this most magical place. My partner & I, went there last April, for a week, before heading down to Nusa Dua. My son & family joined us for the last two days here, & they & their three chilkdren just loved it, too. We had a one bedroom villa, with private pool. It was traditional Bali style, but done in a more western way, but still keeping all the essence of why we love going to Bali. The restaurant was just wonderful, & down the bottom level, there is a completely 'green' organic cafe, in a setting made for the Gods. The spa is down on this level too, & what a place! A word of advi=ce though, don't go towards the end of the day, as I think my girl, was just a bit worn out, as she'd been at it,since early, but that's a small fault. The others who used it said it was great. But the setting has to be seen to be believed! The adults pool is also down on that level, but strangely, most adults just stayed at the top pool, but then seemed put out, when my grandchildren hopped in the pool, & were having fun, swimming around, & calling out to each other, when if they wanted complete peace & quiet, all the had to do, was take the lift to the bottom adult pool, which was incredibly beautiful. Every afternoon, a free afternoon high tea is served, & it's such a treat. Very Balinese, but even the children, found little treats they could eat. Staff? what can I say, every wish you could ever make, they thought of, before you could. I'm gluten intolerant, & after the first day, each time I entered the dining room, someone, would come to me, with a plate, of the most yummy gluten free bread/roll. There isn't one thing we could fault at this most magical place.

Room Tip: I can't remember our villa number, but we were about half way along the top path, going towards...

This resort is super perfect for an escape vacation or group putting. Staff were so efficient and paid much attention to details of each individual guest. Lovely hotel and I would not mind to continue recommending to anyone.

Room Tip: Room with a private pool

we thought we would treat ourselves to a night of luxury- and it definitely met all our expectations- could not fault it at all. The bedroom had a nice view of the rice paddies, was very quiet, had the most comfortable bed ever with clean pressed white linen and everything was spotlessly clean. We had the buffet dinner which was the best we had had in the 8 weeks in Bali- plenty of variety and well priced for what was on offer. The free afternoon tea was special and a nice touch. I decided to indulge and have a facial- ok it was far more expensive than anything else you can find in town, but the sheer ambiance and luxury was well worth the price. They gave a welcome drink and fruit and cold tea after the facial. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and well trained and service was 100%. The breakfast was also the best ever and it was an amazing, faultless stay- pity it wasnt for longer. Oh yes, the lap pool was also divine/

Room Tip: choose a room with a rice paddy view - on the 3rd floor

The moment you step in this Hotel, you know you are in Heaven, greeted by a welcome drink, the staff in the hotel is very friendly and welcoming. The hotel has an incomparable scenery, overlooking the river and the valley from one side, the rice fields from the other side. Just anywhere you look is spectacular. The infinity pool that makes you feel you are swimming in the middle of the forest provides an incomparable setting. Nonetheless, Maya Ubud is not for anyone, if you are looking for fun, it is not the right place to be. It is perfect for romance, serenity, meditation, for anyone looking for an unbeatable scenery and a calm environment. As at night the choices are not so wide and transportation from the hotel at night is not so easy, so you end up dining in the Hotel. So if you want a fun vacation walking on the streets at night, hitting restaurants, pubs, seeing alot of crazy tourists, stay away from Ubud and enjoy anywhere on the beach, seminyak, kuta...

We stayed here for a week with our two little boys (9 & 3). From the moment we arrived we were blown away. The resort is gorgeous, we found the staff always helpful and friendly and the location stunning. There are two pools, the kids are only allowed in one, which is fine, its big enough. There's lots of space for them to run around and my husband and I enjoyed taking turns to visit the spa and the adults only spa pool. The food was good, although very western. We also had a great driver who took us to a bunch of places. It's worth staying in one of the villas. Our villa was beautiful and very clean.
The only thing we found disappointing on our trip was the Ubud town centre, which was really just set up for tourists, it was hard to get a sense of the real Bali.

Let me say when we booked this and arrived for three days its looked great and as you approach the reception is all that you think its going to be. The reception staff were polite but to the point. We were shown to our paid for upgraded room which over looked the paddy fields. it was a nice room but had a massive stain on the floor around the waste bin area. this looked like a tea stain that had not been cleaned up. upon opening the main curtains there was a used plaster on the floor. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A 5 STAR. Speaking to reception and a flip of the hand we were informed it would be cleaned. NO apologies made.
The grounds the hotel is set in a great and neat. As you walk down the hill away from the reception the villas and on either side looking over the valley or the paddy fields. As you get to the far end you can either walk down many steps or take the lift to the second pool in the valley near to the stream. This is also where the spa is.
The infinity pool near to the reception looks great and could be if the hotel fixed certain things like a lot of loose pool tiles which could and did cut people. ants ants and more ants.
The breakfast was great and there was a large amount of choice. The evening meal choice was not great as it was mostly European and we came to Bali for the local food. get a taxi into UBUD and try the local places they are cheap and great.
For two days we were there they were chopping trees down with a chainsaw from 8am to 5 pm so not a great relaxing finish to the holiday we had paid for or expected. Many people complained to reception and all they got was a sorry and shrug of the shoulders.
Would i stay here again. Not on your nelly.

Room Tip: Get a villa for the extra money
