I was in town for the Great American Brass Band Festival (my third time - a fun experience). In response to my asking the desk clerk at my hotel "where's a good place to eat dinner" and after a couple minutes of discussion, she said "You might try Mallard's - I don't care for it but it is popular".
While I couldn't figure out if this was a recommendation or a warning, I stopped at Mallard's anyway. It turned out to be a good choice.
I had pork Osso Bucco, which is one of their specialties, 24 ounce bone-in shank - way too much for me to eat. I had two sides: cracked pepper fries and baked beans. The cracked pepper fries did not live up to my expectations - they were fine but just not as special as I had hoped. The beans were very good. This food, along with some iced tea: $23.00, including tax and gratuity.
An excellent meal!
