It is very rewarding to read such a kind review - thank you for taking the time to post it. I am sorry we don't have air-conditioning but do hope that the fans in the rooms were of some help - we have been having an unusually warm spell since the beginning of July. I do hope you enjoyed your garden tour - we have so many wonderful gardens here in East Sussex and they have been looking particularly lovely this year. We hope to welcome you back to Horsted Place next time you visit these shores.

Horsted Place has to be one of the finest hotels in the UK. The staff are exceptional and the views onto the parkland are beautiful. We attended on Fathers' Day for a "Gentleman's Tea" which was unusual in that it had some of the lightest cheese scones we have ever had sandwiched together with cream cheese, and home made sausage rolls, a selection of neat sandwiches as well as a fantastic selection of elegant and tasty cakes and pastries, rounding off with a raspberry panacotta. Although there were 50 covers that afternoon we received service par excellence as usual and came away feeling as though we had been well and truly pampered. No matter when you visit there is always a wonderful welcome from everyone. We sincerely hope this place will never change as we love it to bits.

I thoroughly enjoyed my short stay at Horstead Place, a fairly short journey away from the hustle bustle of London over the Bank Holiday Weekend. Upon our arrival, we were instantly upgraded to a suite which overlooked the golf course, which was immaculately clean and well kept. The windows were large and the rooms bright, whilst the shower and bathrooms were equally impressive. Luckily the weather was excellent, so we spent the day playing croquet or going for a tranquil walk in the gardens, or sipping Pimms on the terrace. They also put on an excellent afternoon tea and roast dinner, albeit at an extra cost. You also get free access to the local gym and swimming pool if you quickly grow tired of rest and relaxation. Overall I would highly recommend staying here if you are after a country house escape holiday, if you savour peace and quiet and want a beautiful place to lounge and read that book you just haven't had time to finish.

This is only a review of the restaurant, not of the hotel itself. We went to Horsted Place for a full English tea.

It is easy to get to, being just off the A26 a couple of hundred yards from the junction with the A22 and much closer to Uckfield than Lewes The building is set some way back from the road in large grounds and is reached by more a lane than a drive. It has been restored to something like its original Victorian splendour.

The food was all fresh and delicious - and very generous. We each had three sandwiches, two scones (still warm) with huge amounts of cream and jam, a small cake, a small sandwich of short pastry with strawberries and cream inside, a tall glass containing a sort of custard creme with another strawberry on top and a a chocolate mousse confection inside a chocolate basket . It was more than we could manage. But it seemed that this was a common problem as two cardboard boxes were readily supplied as 'doggy bags'

The staff were friendly and efficient - although they had little to do once the tea was served. The only slight niggle was that I think an establishment as upmarket as this should have been able to produce Redbush tea on request.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know how much you enjoyed your afternoon tea. Following your review our Head Chef has purchased Redbush tea to add to the other fifteen teas we already offer - these include Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Assam, green tea, decaffeinated tea and a range of herbal and fruit teas. I do hope you will visit us again and find that your tea of choice is now available.

Stayed for just 1 night but found the facilities excellent and the location adjacent to a golf course very quiet. Service was impacable. Did not have dinner there but can confirm the breakfast was a cut above most hotels', served in a small but elegant dining room. Rather interestingly the hotel has no bar but does have a store of just about any drink that you might wish apart from a draught beer. Drink can be consumed in the very comfortable lounge whilst being entertained by a very competant pianist. Loved it.

As a frequent traveler we are not accustomed for a hotel to ask for our room key every time we decide to leave or even more so to inform someone every time we had to leave hotel. It was if she was appalled that we questioned why we couldnt keep room key with us. Since the hotel didn't have room safe in our room, your only option is the office safe. I didn't want to leave my personals about ( jewelry and monies etc.) I guess you have to just trust no one will enter your room when your gone after you give them back their key. The reason that was stated to us was "how will we know if your not in your room in case of a fire"? Uh ok guess that is the horsted place way of thinking. Also there is no room service after 9pm. If you are thirsty for something other then water. You have to travel down to main lobby and find porter to get a soda, juice, tea, etc.
The hotel is nice and has an old feel to it. The stairs crick when you walk down like a very old house. The room was clean and bed was comfortable. The lift was slow as molasses and super small but thank goodness it worked since we were on the fourth level. Loads of stairs to climb. Food was good and pricey. Parking is included and convienantly close to hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to place such an interesting review. I am glad you liked the house and found the carpark convenient. I would however mention for other readers that we only have three floors - ground, first and second. Our lift is undoubtedly slow but reliable and we are lucky to have it in a grade two listed house built in 1851. We offer 24 hour room service and guests are welcome to call down to order a drink at any time - this information is readily available in our room directories but we will redouble our efforts to make everyone aware of this. For the security and safety of all our guests we do prefer that room keys are left at reception when leaving the hotel; the duty manager does of course hold a master key.

Horsted Place was a total surprise......from the bluebell lined winding driveway, to the stunning facade, the relaxed garden and secret pathways, the discrete and totally professional staff, the food and wine, the fascinating history......it just ones on! I think the view from the bedroom window opening the curtains first thing in the morning looking out across the vast garden with wild flowers over to the South Downs, the blue sky and the sound of the cock pheasants - and not a car or house in sight......had to be one of the best hotel experiences ever! Totally recommended for a special occasion. There were 9 of us aged betwee 10 and 86 yrs and we were all totally indulged.
We will dinifitely be back for another game of croquet!!!!!

Room Tip: I booked the rooms during a promotional period - and worth every penny!
