“Nice hotel for the price”
Reviewed October 23, 2007

We booked two rooms at this property. Other members of Tripadvisor were very helpful in my making this selection. Overall, a very pleasant stay. The staff was extremely helpful, efficient and accomodating. Each and every request that we made was granted quickly with a smile. The rooms were clean and well kept. They recently made renovations at this hotel and it shows. The room rate was the deciding factor, about $100 per night.
Now the negatives. We stayed in a non-smoking room, but it was clearly apparent that there were smokers there before us. In addition, as soon as we stepped off the elevator, there was an overwhelming smell of smoke.
The hotel's title includes the word riverfront. Although the river is very close, you can't see it because there's a levee between the hotel and the river.
If you don't mind the smoke and don't need a view, this place is fine.

  • Liked — Conveniently located directly across the river from Paul Brown Stadium.
  • Disliked — Strong smell of cigarette smoke.

Kudos to this hotel for trying so hard. Not blessed with the best location, local area or lay out this mainline Holiday Inn tries hard.

The hotel is dated but it was renovated in 2006. The rooms are typical Holiday Inn layout but have been refurbished and are very clean. They only sign of the “old” is the low drop ceilings in the hallways. The over all impression is very positive.

The location is convenient for those attending events in Cincinnati - right next to the flood berm on the KY side of the river. The hotel is "river front" just not river view! One is able to get to across the river to attend Red’s games or similar via the local area shuttle. Walking would be difficult as the area is not well set up for it.

Covington has not been “refurbished as much a Newport Cinni’s other river front town. The area directly around the hotel is busy. Trains pass with in 300 yards on a over head bridge. Interstate 71-75 is 300 yards the other direction so this is not a scenic location. Lots of traffic noise outside. There is fast food and gas station shops near by. But I would not drive there even though it is visible across the street. Not the best neighborhood.

This is a full service hotel so there is a restaurant and bar with in the hotel. Fitness center is small but functional. I would not go for a run in this area just due to heavy traffic. The staff here was very positive and seemed to be enjoying their jobs.

Over all this is not a scenic hotel but one that tries hard with what it has to work with

The name of this hotel is miseading. It is not on the OH river, but fairly close to it. There are no views of the river or of DT Cinc.. It is in an old neighborhood of KY nearby the OH river, across from DT Cinc., but the hotel was clean and the staff very attentive.
It is an older place with green and gold colors, rather dark. We had a 2 dbl beds room and it was small with a small bathroom-one sink. The AC quit the last night we were there, but the room stayed cool enough for our departure the next morning.
No continental breakfast, but there is a restr. in the hotel and they have a nice buffet breakfast. Don't know how much it cost, since my husband paid for it and I didn't pay attention.
Nice outdoor pool and adequate fitness room.
The front desk people were very nice and accommodating.
It was clean and reasonably priced for the summer. We booked through Travelocity, 5 nights for 455.00. No surprises when we got the bill. Lots of fast food places to eat nearby.
If you want to stay right on the river by downtown Cinc., try the Comfort Inn. It is really on the river banks. That's the only hotel I could see that was right on the side of the river.
It wasn't difficult to cross the river into Cinc., but we had a GPS unit in our car and relatives there. If you want to be sure you can get around in DT Cinc., stay in DT Cinc.. The freeways and bridges could be confusing. The Courtyard Marriott is right next door and it is taller, so maybe they have river views, but we did not.

We stayed Saturday night at the hotel. It was easy to find, clean, and the shuttle service to the Newport levy was right across the street. The shuttle ran until midnight which was late enough for us. It did not have free breaksfast but did have excellent coffee in the lobby as we were departing. There was a nice bar area to gather as we were waiting for everyone to depart for the evening. The pool looked small, not very busy in late afternoon, but seemed clean.

I stayed in this hotel last year and said I would never go back. Well, it has been redone and cleaned up and now it is a great place to stay. The workout room is all new and the pool was clean and fun. The room was a good value. Dining room could use some different choices, but the bar area was friendly with a good sports atmosphere.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn for a weekend, and found it to be quite satisfactory. Staff was pleasant - including the housekeepers, room was large and clean and fairly updated. The king size bed was a little hard but still slept well. Even though it is close to interstate, noise was not a problem, and did not hear any noise from within the hotel. There is a nice large pool, that was never crowded. Location convenient to downtown Cincinnati or to Newport on the Levee, but you do need to drive.
