Loved Belinda's. If you are looking for corporate resort service; slick, swish and humorless you will struggle to find it here. You will however find Benny and Belinda to be lovely hosts, this gem is more a home than a hotel, with service that reflects the laid back nature of Koh Sdach. There is no choice but to slow down and take things easy. As a small family run resort there are only a handful of staff, so service is not immediate and food can sometimes feel like it has taken time to arrive, however as long as you give Benny enough notice about when you would like to eat, it will be there on time (It will also be delicious). Breakfasts were basic but nice, they could be improved with a decent sized cafetiere and jug of juice. The food served at Belinda's can feel expensive given the general cost eating out in Cambodia, however there are some good and cheaper alternatives to be found down in the village if you don't mind the 20 minute walk to get there.
The accommodation is very well put together and makes the most of the good views towards the mainland.
All in all our stay was lovely, with the friendly nature of the hosts adding to what was a great family Christmas holiday.
Things to consider
- No Visa etc, you need to pay with cash. Take more dollars than you think you need.
- Communicate with Benny before hand about getting to the island, we sailed from Sihanoukville, it was great. Got dropped of at Belinda's beach.

We booked for 4 nights initially at Belinda's, but ended up 5. It is quite a hard place to get to - we ended up chartering a yacht from Sihanoukville with Captain Ronnie - 'Sail Cambodia' it cost $300, but it was such a lovely day - it took approx 7 hours!!!! Make sure you get there before departure time or else you'll get stern words from the captain. Once on board it was great fun and the captain warmed up and his lovely wife Jenny was the perfect hostess.
We arrived at Koh S'dach to welcome cocktails and was shown our rooms.
Koh Sdach is an unspoilt/undeveloped island. It has one fishing village, which we explored and ate at. The locals were very friendly and willing to give us rides on their motorbikes back to Belinda's - a 1km walk, or a wobbly 10 min ride up a sandy path.
We loved Belinda's - Benny is a perfect host. Belinda is lovely too - but our french isn't very good. Our party consisted of 2 families and there were 4 girls aged between 9 and 15. The kids enjoyed the animals - cats and puppy, and there was plenty to occupy them - pool table, swimming pool, table tennis, table football.
The rooms were lovely - cleaned everyday. One draw back - no hot water.
Benny cooks great food in a lovely setting. The food is cooked in front of you with fresh local produce. It is a very informal, friendly, relaxed place. Benny made Xmas for us really good fun - organising a pirate party on Xmas eve and on Xmas day he produced food all day, throwing in a game or two as well! They are definitely a couple who are up for a party and enjoy a drink and a boogie!
It is definitely worth the extra effort to get there. Our stay was slightly spoilt by the taxi company who Benny booked for us to take us from the mainland to PP (There is now a road being built to the coast) they decided to charge us more than the agreed price. So make sure if you are going to take a taxi that the charge is definitely agreed. We did manage to bring them down but we ended up paying $50 more than the agree price. This was not Benny and Belinda's fault at all, but it was really annoying and thankfully we had the money to pay them.
I would like to thank Benny and Belinda for their warm hospitality and wish them good luck for the future!

While the setting is idyllic, the owners run it like an informal B&B while charging disproportionately high rates. The resort is difficult and expensive to reach and once there everything is charged as additional expense (right from boat transfer to a glass of water).
While the owner is well meaning, he does not have the experience and the staff to run this kind of establishment. Having previously stayed at Rainbow Lodge we noticed the apparent lack of regard for the environment. The beach was littered with rubbish including broken glass bottles and was not suitable for swimming. All in all at the end we were very happy to leave.

When we reached the destination, we first had a good feeling about the place, especially due to its location and the relative quality of the construction of the buildings. However, we also had a first glimpse of the total lack of organisation skills of the two European owners. It took us an hour and a half to get from the local village on the island to the hotel's beach.

Then, it became clear that they did not have the background nor the skills to properly run a hotel. As days went by, the service was getting worse and worse, especially regarding breakfast and dinners (the island being non-touristic and the hotel isolated, you don't have many options for dining, you're stuck at the hotel by night). Not much choice for meals (a set menu every night, prepared by the owner), and because the owner is not a professional cook, it takes hours before being served. When it comes to breakfast, again it takes some time before getting food on the table, because breakfast is not organised professionnally but rather as if you were staying at someone's house.

That would not be too much of an issue if the prices reflected this lack of hotel management skills. Unfortunately prices are extremely high, again because there are no options around, and you can't help feeling ripped off when you leave the island. They even charge you for drinking water at dinners and throughout the day.

Bottom line, nice location, comfortable rooms, but a disastrous level of service.

Also, you'll have to pay everything in cash, despite the fact that you will be requested a credit card number to secure the booking, in the end you won't be able to use it. If you did not bring enough cash like I did (I was not told prior to my stay at the hotel), imagine the troubles!
