“Not Great”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2011

Traveling back from Alabama, we stopped for the night. This hotel had a vacancy, so we took it. Kind of Scary, but we were tired and needed to stop. Maybe we should have looked elsewhere. There was a new hotel in the area, but it was full. The wallpaper was peeling and missing in some areas. The blow dryer did not work. The toilet seat fell off. The pipe from the wall to the shower head developed a leak and soaked the bathroom, leaving barely a dry towel. The cable TV was out. The light is the bathroom was not very bright. Breakfast in the morning was a joke, packaged muffins and cinnamon rolls. Old? looked like it. The whole area looked blighted, not just this hotel. Avoid this whole exit if you can help it.

All I can say is check your room ,then go find another place to stay, we didn't make it through the night, left at 1AM and went home, strange sounds in the walls, suspicious holes to the maintenance corridor between the rooms,

The location was good as it was 15 minutes from Mammoth Cave. The hotel wasn't spectacular but nothing in the area is really spectacular. Looks like the Cave City may have fallen on some hard times as the hotel across the street is closed and boarded up. The room seemed fairly clean. The cable didn't work and they didn't come and try to fix it, they offered to move us to a different room but why bother at that point? The pool and hot tub were very nice. Overall, it is what I expected for the price and area.

one bed had dirty sheets, they did change promptly but when i complained about temp of room, they poo-poo'd it... after about a hour and half when it got no cooler, called front desk with no answer so had to walk down to it... after camplaining finally gave me another room that was hot as hades (heat index was 110-115 that day and air in room was off), so had to wait in lobby for 90 minutes for it to cool off
night clerk told me to address issue with day clerk when i finally got to bed at 3... when i checked out in AM, clerk said since we spent the night we were due no compensation and was very rude about it... late start caused us to miss tour of mammoth cave
ironically, when came into town, we had several motel choices and picked best western because we have generally had good experiences at them- bad choice obviously

We came to the area on a weekend trip with no kids to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary. I wanted somewhere to stayclose to Mammoth Cave, but where we could have some privacy. Your choices are pretty limited in Cave City. I was a little leery of staying in Cave City, but I hated to drive back and forth from Bowling Green. I was afraid that staying here would be like staying at the Bates Motel. lol. It was actually very nice. Our room was on the back side, room 118. King, non-smoking. Oversized room, very spacious. And it really was non-smoking. No lingering smokey smells or anything. It looked like everything had been updated recently. Everything was clean. It was really surprising, for me. I expected to have problems with some things, but I really could not find anything I did not like about the place. And the beds were comfortable. I usually have trouble sleeping in a strange bed, but I did not here. The pool area was nice, but we did not get in. There were always a lot of kids out there. We joked that after 10pm, the pool should not have closed, just be no-kids. The staff was nice nad very helpful. Even answering questions about directions and things. All in all, a wonderful stay.

Cave City can be a scary place to stay and eat, but there are a few good places amongst the horror stories. This is one of the good places. The service is good and they have the classic BW breakfast bar with the waffles, cereal, etc. The rooms are clean and comfortable if not a bit small. The location is really good as it is by all the attractions and quite close to Mammoth Cave.
Do remember that there are no real hotels in Cave City and that a good majority of the motels can be memorable for the wrong reasons. If you are looking for a good place to spend a night or two, this will be a good experience.

I stayed at the Best Western on my way home from Nashville, TN. I toured Mammoth Cave, which was incredible. The staff was very friendly, and my room was very clean and quiet. The price was reasonable, and the location was not too far from I-65. It was not far from a Cracker Barrel, which is one of my favorite restaurants!! I will definitely stay here next summer!!
