“Relaxing place off the beaten path”
Reviewed February 17, 2014

Getting to Bananas from Phuket was no problem, the owner was able to arrange a taxi who was waiting at the airport (they were able to do the same for us to get to Krabi Pier). When you're there, however, it doesn't seem like it should be so accesible because of how beautifully secluded it is. We loved the communal meal every night (had the best pumpkin curry I've ever tasted), and the grounds were a tropical paradise with no shortage of hammocks and places to relax. If you are opposed to a 25 minute walk to a beach then consider the rating a 4, but if you don't mind a nice walk, which frankly made it feel like we were getting even further away from it all, to a couple of great beaches, then you will have no problems. Staying here is not necessarily "roughing it", but also not what I would call luxurious. It's perfect if you're looking for a relaxing, care-free stay.
Bananas is also located near a mosque. The prayer and singing are very clearly heard, which is quite beautiful. A light sleeper might not love this aspect, but luckily there were none of those in our bamboo hut. We found it very peaceful, adding to the already serene, dream-like atmosphere in the evenings.
The location also provides one of the most beautiful sunsets we saw on our travels, with a crowd of spectators every night.

Room Tip: No rooms seemed to be directly on the shoreline, there will be trees no matter where you stay. Only...

If you want to relax in Thailand in beautiful surroundings and few tourists this is the best place to be. You can do as much or little as you want - relax on the pier or in a hammock, swim in the warm water a high tide, rent a scooter to explore the area or sign up for one of their various trips including kayaking and beaches. It helps if there is more than 1 person for a trip or it's too expensive - they go around after dinner asking what people want to sign up for the next day. I only stayed 2 nights as I went on to Krabi to do an island tour but I regretted it and wish I stayed longer.

If you want to chill out and are not expecting 5* luxury then you cant go wrong. They have a dorm room as well as private bungalows so those on a budget can also enjoy such a beautiful place. They serve excellent food at reasonable prices and dinner is communal unless you opt out. The staff and owner are lovely and so welcoming, I can see why people go for a few days and stay for weeks! The only thing is it doesn't have is a beach, but you can get to one if you really need sand between your toes. Personally I thought the view from the pier was great and a beach wasn't necessary. Dont expect the best night sleep of your life though, the call to morning prayers, local cats and birds will have you awake early, and if you are in the dorm you are next to the communal area. But in such a beautiful setting you shouldn't be wanting to sleep in late anyway!

We LOVED our stay at the bungalows! You are truly in Paradise when you stay here! far from the tourist track of Krabi and Ao Nang you really feel like you have experience something really special. What I loved most about the bungalows was how it was a great base for travelling around most days we rented mopeds and travelled to the north for the national parks and cave exploring and also to Krabi town for shopping! Ollie is a great host and provides great excursions we did the day island trip and the kayaking! Dinner is served at 7 and the staff cook delicious thai food that is served in the communal seating area, we met some awesome people and enjoyed our evening chatting away on the pier and playing card games! Our experience was an amazing and memorable one thanks to Ollie and all the other travellers who we met! Finally if you do go the bananas and your looking to buy souvenirs please please buy the jewellery made by the gardener he is a great guy and it's lovely to see where and who your money goes too! The jewellery is handmade and a great keepsake of your time in Thailand!

The place is 45 km away from the airport. It is a very quiet location. So remote than everything can be organised from the bungalow (island tours, kayak, food). If you want to organize yourself or eat somewhere else, you have to rent a motorbike and explore.
The bungalow are very nice and well built. there are two mosques nearby so be prepared to be waken up in the middle of the night by the muezzin.

Bananas is truly paradise! If you are looking for a place in Thailand that has few tourists and opportunities to interact with locals or just to spend time by yourself in a hammock then this is where you should be! They can organize kayaking, island tours, scooter rentals, massages and so on. Every evening there is a communal dinner for 150b which provides an opportunity to share experiences with fellow travelers and make friends.

Other reviews I read described Bananas being far from town or other petty things, but if you read the information that Oli provides beforehand then there should be no confusion about what Bananas is like. I really can't understand why anyone would complain about spending time in this beautiful part of the world!

Room Tip: Read the information on the Bananas website and what Oli emails to all guests who book as it will ex...

Booked a private ensuite bungalow and given a shared bungalow with shared facilities on arrival. Told that this was the correct accommodation when we told them it was not. Next day, finally given an apology by the owner who admitted there had been a mix up and offered three choices. Stay in the bungalow we were in, move to a more expensive bungalow and pay the extra or LEAVE ! Virtually ignored by the owner for our 5 night stay and felt very uncomfortable! Have noticed in other reviews that this has happened before.

We loved the relaxed vibe of the place. You help yourself to drinks and just write in the book.

Lots of helpful advice from Ollie and Ana

Very relaxed and beautiful location

I'd highly recommend this place if you want to get away from it all and relax
